SALARY: £18,000 +OTE

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Case Worker / School Guidance Councillor / Student Support Mentor with a caring, determined and understanding nature.

Working as the Case Worker / School Guidance Councillor / Student Support Mentor you will provide support to 16 – 19 year old pupils to ensure each learner ascertains successful progression through the college into sustained higher education and/or employment.

As the Case Worker / School Guidance Councillor / Student Support Mentor you will manage, monitor and evidence individual case work, whilst building close external relationships with local authorities, schools, colleges, training providers, voluntary sector organisations, employers and other ESF provisions to sign post learners across Greater London Boroughs to access targeted support.

As a successful candidate you will have a great opportunity to join a well-established, leading specialist vocational college. The college achieved an OFSTED Grade 2 (Good) during its last inspection and holds the matrix Standard and the Investors in People (IIP)Gold Standard.

The college is open all year and operates without term breaks.  Courses start throughout the year and learners can enrol and start their course during any month of the year.

DUTIES

Your duties and responsibilities as the Case Worker / School Guidance Councillor / Student Support Mentor:

  • Provide effective information, advice and guidance to individuals to support with barriers such as mental health, learning difficulties and disabilities, additional learning support, drug and alcohol intervention, young carers support, care leaver support and other barriers which may impact on learning and development
  • Conduct and review initial assessment to establish individual starting points and interventions required and produce tailored action plans for each individual caseload
  • Schedule monthly 1:1 and group sessions with learners to monitor engagement and progression with ability to build confidence and motivation
  • Encourage learners to engage in out-of-classroom development opportunities, including Job Shop services, Employers, Partner Charities, Local Authorities and external college Partnerships
  • Support development of life skills, for example how to deal with authority figures, developing a work ethic, financial and debt management, and broadening geographic horizons etc.
  • Ensure learners meet the required outcomes of: improved behaviour, attendance, employability and personal skills development; Vocational and Functional Skills achievement; and a sustained progression into Further Education, Employment or Vocational Training
  • Adhere to all relevant policies (safeguarding, health and safety, etc.) when delivering activities with young people
  • Document and evidence all work and use data in order to provide the most effective support with young people
  • Liaise with and support parents, carers, guardians, etc., of the learners where appropriate
  • Resourceful in acting as a mentor supporting individuals to produce quality individual progress plans and ensure that the services are tailored and evidenced to meet participant’s needs
  • Ability to communicate, support and encourage individuals facing multiple barriers and needs to remain in education and training
  • Obtain data and evidence positive destinations of individual case loads
  • Participate in regular group knowledge share sessions to support learning, strengthen case management and share best practice
  • Report, share and communicate with wider team and external partners on risks to engagement and development

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Good all-round level of education to include Maths and English to GCSE (Grade A-C) or L2 equivalent
  • Learning Support qualification at Level 2 or equivalent 
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • A commitment to providing excellent learner support and confidence
  • Basic IT skills, with experience of Windows based applications

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Learning Support qualification at Level 3 or equivalent or willingness to work towards gaining within probation period
  • Basic guidance and counselling skills
