Assistant Cook/Kitchen Assistant

We are an award winning farm shop 8 miles north of Newcastle with a passion for fresh local food and are looking for a hardworking, self-motivated, reliable person with attention to detail to join our kitchen team.
The role will be tailored according to the candidates skills and experience. This would suit an assistant cook or a competent enthusiastic kitchen assistant looking to step up.

(We are based just off the A1 at the Milkhope Centre, Blagdon, so your own transport is vital, NE13 6DA).

The role involves:

• Preparation of all fruit, vegetables and other raw materials to be used by the kitchen.
• Assisting the cooks with the preparation of all our homemade shop produce.
• Correct management and stock rotation of ingredients and finished products for sale.
• Well-presented and accurate packaging and labelling of products for retail sale.
• Maintaining an exceptionally high standard of routine daily cleaning and tidying of kitchen as well as regular deep cleaning.
• Progression to producing soups, pates, cakes and puddings from scratch depending on skills and competency.

About you:

• You must have your own transport as this is a rural location.
• You must have at least 1 years’ experience of basic cooking and kitchen work and ideal though not essential, a catering qualification.
• You must be flexible with a can-do attitude, quick work pace and be eager to learn.
• You will have a passion to be part of a team producing top quality food from scratch and take great pride in your work.
• You must have high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
• You must be a strong team player, honest and hardworking and be able to work on your own initiative.
• You should have an interest in food.

The job:

• Own transport vital due to rural location.
• The hours are between 8.00am-5.30pm and 3 days per week including alternate Saturdays. Extra hours will be required at busy times and during holiday cover.
• Good rates of pay dependent on skill and experience.
• This is a permanent position.
