JOB PURPOSE:

To lead a team of subject teachers and to be responsible for the work of those teachers the development of the subject, both its long term planning and effective day-to-day teaching the care of staff raising standards and improving examination results making a significant contribution to the development and implementation of school policies that create a positive learning culture In addition to carrying out the professional duties of a teacher other than a Head, as described in the Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document, he/she will be responsible to the Head for the generic areas listed below. A Head of Department (HoD) may delegate any of these duties to staff in the Department, but retains overall responsibility.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to carrying out the generic responsibilities of all Heads of Department and leading on matters concerning the Maths Department, the Head of Maths is responsible for the following specific areas:

1. Ensuring the Maths GCSE results meet or exceed science college targets

2. Ensuring the Maths college targets of expanded and broadened curriculum within Maths are met in particular developing new vocational opportunities for pupils at GCSE and A level as appropriate.

3. Supporting and monitoring all key stage co-ordinators in innovative curriculum development in line with science college targets, taking an active role where appropriate in sharing innovation across the whole school

4. Ensuring existing enrichment activities are carried out across the key stages in line with Maths college targets.

5. Monitoring the impact of existing enrichment on students, and developing new enrichment activities to address underachievement in targeted groups.

6. Ensuring uptake of Maths subjects post 16 meet or exceed Maths college targets

7. Developing and monitoring the use of ICT in teaching and learning across the curriculum to raise achievement across the key stages. This is to include the use of IWB and individual and group ICT teaching strategies using the science networked laboratories.

8. Developing the resources available to students through the Maths college website and school e-learning environments.

9. Developing, maintaining and monitoring the use of yearly databases of student's prior data to be used in target setting and monitoring of achievement.

10. Line manage senior science technician, overseeing the work of all technicians, site issues, resources and rooming relevant to science.
