Job Title: Finance Assistant

Location: Manchester, M15

Salary: £17,270 per annum, pro rata. Actual salary is £8,807.00 per annum.

Position: Part time post working 22.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 10.00am to 3.00pm, term time only (0.51FTE). You will however, on occasions, be required to work outside these hours to meet the requirements of the college.

The Sixth Form college is located in Hulme, a mile south of the centre of Manchester and very close to Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University, with excellent transport links. It is a part of an international network of Catholic schools and colleges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for the college finance office for all visitors to the office.
  • Providing the first line support on all finance queries and escalating to another team member when appropriate.
  • Accepting payments from students for trips, class materials and exam resits.
  • Processing staff development bookings and travel arrangements.
  • Scanning documents in to the finance system for the retention of electronic records.
  • Providing cover for other team members when necessary.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Principal, Assistant Principal or College Accountant.

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Experience in an administrative role
  • Proficiency in working with standard office applications such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • A clear understanding of the requirement for audit trails for all actions undertaken in the finance office. E.g. receipts issued for income.
  • The ability to operate a computerised finance system / database and produce reports from this database
  • Ability to prioritise and multitask
  • Ability to manage own workload
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • The ability to maintain quality and organisational procedures for the efficient running of the College finance office
  • The ability to recognise and appreciate the confidential nature of some work undertaken
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Carries out routine liaison to pass on information promptly and accurately to all those who need to know
  • Ability to empathise with 16-19 year olds within a college situation
  • High level of literacy/communication skills
  • Evidence of commitment to Continuous Professional Development

Desirable

  • Experience in a finance office
  • Administrative experience in an educational environment
  • A clear understanding of developments in post-16 education
  • Educated to A level or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience that demonstrates a high order of literacy, numeracy and analytical skills
