JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Plan lessons following agreed Department/Subject Schemes to ensure maximum learning progress. Follow the academy guidance on Teaching and Learning (eg the Highfield Learning Model).
  • Take account of pupils' prior levels of attainment and use them to set targets for future improvements.
  • Set high expectations for pupils' behaviour and maintain good discipline by establishing a purposeful working atmosphere. Follow the academy's Behaviour Management Policy.
  • Set appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils' learning, motivation and presentation of work.
  • Work collaboratively with relevant staff in planning of units of work.
  • Set work for pupils absent from the academy for health or disciplinary reasons.
  • Maintain records of pupils' work.
  • Mark, monitor and return work within a reasonable and agreed time span providing constructive oral and written feedback and clear targets for future learning as appropriate.
  • Identify pupils who need further support to make expected progress and take action to address the issues.
  • Carry out assessment programmes (e.g. reports, records of achievement) as agreed by the academy.
  • Attend the appropriate Parents' Evenings and keep parents informed as to the progress of their child.
  • Be familiar with the Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs (including Gifted and Talented) and keep appropriate records on Individual Education Plans for pupils.
  • Undertake responsibility for a Tutor Group including the delivery of the Tools For Life (PSHE) programme.
  • Be the first point of contact for parents of pupils in the Tutor Group.
  • Monitor (and set targets for) the social and academic progress of individuals in the Tutor Group.
  • Promote good attendance and monitor in accordance with the academy's attendance policy.
  • Use Tutor Role to ensure pupils are ready to learn.
  • Support the aims of the academy to promote a positive learning environment.
  • Treat all pupils fairly, consistently and without prejudice.
  • Set a good example to pupils in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality, attendance and conduct.
  • Promote the aims of the academy by attending and participating in appropriate events, e.g. Open Evenings, Options Evenings etc.
  • Support the ethos of the academy by upholding the behaviour code, uniform regulations etc.
  • Take responsibility for own professional development and participate in staff training when provided.
  • Reflect on own practice as well as the practices of the academy as part of self-evaluation.
  • Be aware of and follow the various policies of the academy.
  • Participate in the management of the academy by attending various team and staff meetings.
  • Ensure that all deadlines are met as published in the academy calendar.
  • Be proactive and take responsibility for matters relating to health and safety.
