Role summary:

Your role will be to manage and develop the Jobshop; alongside the skills development service. You will liaise with staff members, organisations, students and graduates to promote the Jobshop. You must be people focused to produce an outstanding service to students and assist them in application and interview advice.  

                                                       

Background to UMAX

UMAX is an SU service which is built up of three components, advice, employability and Jobshop. This role focuses on the employability and Jobshop areas. UMAX skills development (employability) offers students workshops, volunteering and opportunities to improve their skills and self-reflect. UMAX Jobshop is a free service for Cardiff Met students and graduates; it aims to provide students and graduates with fantastic job opportunities on and off campus. The Jobshop acts as a ‘job centre style’ Jobshop where we run a jobs board for organisations as well as an internal agency for the university, advertising on campus temporary roles for students.

 

Job description:

Operational Management

  • To manage the day to day functions of the  Jobshop, ensuring that service users are supported, all UMAX and SU initiatives are promoted and that all relevant legislation is complied with;
  • To maintain a good understanding of organisations, their industries, what they do and their work culture and environment in order to build sustainable business relationships with clients;
  • To achieve challenging targets for the growth of the service through the use of sales, business development, marketing and networking techniques;
  • To actively sources job opportunities (full time, part time, temporary and volunteering) and contact organisations to promote these through the Jobshop.
  • Ensure that  vacancies are appropriately advertised through a variety of means for optimum effect;
  • To promote the Jobshop agency to internal staff members and encourage them to utilise the service to benefit their recruitment processes and offer exciting job opportunities to students.
  • To support the recruitment of core, temporary and student employees
  • To prepare CV’s and correspondence to forward to clients in respect of suitable applicants
  • To receive and review applications, match agency staff to vacancies and manage the interviews and short-listing of candidates where requested;
  • To ensure that all appropriate reference and eligibility to work checks are conducted prior to employment;
  • To advise agency workers on their rights and responsibilities when on placement with a client
  • To ensure that relevant records are maintained and held securely, and to advise on necessary IT developments for the service;
  • To review recruitment policies to ensure effectiveness of selection techniques and recruitment programmes.
  • To ensure that employee inductions and all relevant paperwork is completed.
  • To be an ambassador to UMAX skills development and Jobshop.

Staff Management

  • To ensure the effective recruitment, induction and training of staff and volunteers in the Jobshop.
  • To undertake regular reviews of performance, setting targets and ensuring that employees have development opportunities.

Reporting

  • To provide detailed and timely updates on figures of engagement with the service
  • To manage budgets for marketing, IT services and relevant membership and training.

Colleagues

  • To actively promote an open communication process with all colleagues in support of each other’s areas and be able to refer students onto specific staff members.
  • To offer the highest possible quality internal and external customer service.

General

  • To ensure compliance with all appropriate Health and Safety, Insurance, Financial and Licensing regulations/legislation.
  • To manage projects from conception to completion.
  • All work to be done in line with SU policies & procedures.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities of the post that may from time to time be reasonably requested.
  • To adopt a flexible approach to work hours as and when required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications - essential

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent.            

                               

Experience/Knowledge – essential

  • Experience of marketing and publicity
  • Worked in a customer service focused environment

Desirable

  • Proven experience in an office environment.
  • Knowledge of the current labour market             

Skills - essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to network effectively with a wide range of groups and individuals, face to face and via the phone and email.
  • Sound and proven administrative skills including good time-management and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and execute a demanding and varied workload.
  • Attention to customer care.
  • Ability to summarise information into bite size details
  • Great communication and sales skills

Desirable

  • The ability to speak Welsh
