APPOINTMENT OF VICE-CHAIRS AND INDEPENDENT MEMBERS TO NHS WALES

We have a number of exciting opportunities to help shape the future of health care in NHS Wales through undertaking an Independent Member role on a Board. We are advertising roles in a number of Local Health Boards and Public Health Wales Trust so why not be part of making a difference to your health services in NHS Wales?

The local health boards are responsible for planning, designing, developing and securing the delivery of primary, community, in-hospital care services, and where appropriate specialised services for the citizens in their respective areas to meet identified local needs.

We are recruiting for a number of roles in a number of health boards, details of which are listed below, for Vice Chairs, Local Authority members and for Independent members.

Public Health Wales has an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of public health in Wales and to help achieve a step change improvement in the health and well being of the population. The Trust needs to respond to health threats, address physical and mental health challenges and understand the social and environmental factors affecting our health. Public Health Wales is looking for an independent board member (local authority) who is able to actively contribute to this agenda by developing good working relationships, holding executives to account and bringing an independent view to the Board. Applicants must have experience of working with or within local authorities in Wales but not necessarily at a senior level. So, if you have a genuine desire to help improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Wales, Public Health Wales would like to hear from you.

We are recruiting to the following boards:

Abertawe Bro Morgannwg - Bridgend, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot

Anuerin Bevan - Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and South Powys

Cardiff & Vale – Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan

Powys – North, East and West Powys

Public Health Wales - All Wales

Vice-Chair

The Vice-Chair will be a member of the Board and will deputise for the Chair in the latter’s absence for any reason. In addition to his/her corporate role across the breadth of the Health Board’s responsibilities, the Vice-Chair will have a specific brief to oversee the Health Board’s performance in the planning, delivery and evaluation of primary, community and mental health services ensuring a balanced care model to meet the needs of the UHB’s population.

Independent Members

Independent Members are expected to work with their Executive Director colleagues to develop strategy, policy and ensure sound governance. They will also be expected to play an active role to ensure the Health Board/Trust delivers services and performs effectively at a strategic and operational level. They will have a key communication and engagement role within the Health Board/Trust and are expected to bring an independent view to the Board to challenge as appropriate financial and service plans.

Independent Members

Band 4

  • Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (3 posts) – Community, Local Authority & Planning and Business

Band 2

  • Public Health Wales NHS Trust (1 post) – Local Authority

 

 

Appointments will be made on merit although consideration will be given to geographical spread across the Health Board/Trust catchment area and the need to establish a balanced skills mix.

The Vice-Chair will be appointed for up to four (4) years and the post is based on a notional time commitment of a minimum of thirteen (13) days per month, but this will be subject to organisational demands. The Vice-Chair will be eligible to receive remuneration which equates to £56,316 per annum.

Independent Members/Non-executive Directors will be appointed for up to four (4) years and the post is based on a notional time commitment of a minimum of four (4) days per month, but this will be subject to organisational demands. Eligible members will be entitled to receive a remuneration of £15,936 (Band 4) and £9,360 (Band 2) per annum.

We are particularly interested in hearing from under-represented groups such as women, disabled people and ethnic minority individuals and the skills you have to make a contribution in these roles.
