SALARY: Grade 6, actual salary approximately £12,283 per annum

WORKING HOURS: Fixed term appointment until 31st August 2017, 30 hours per week, term time + 5 days.

THE COMPANY: Our client is a Trust School based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. They opened in 2011 and have made significant improvements since their inception. “There is very much a sense of ‘team’ in the school. Staff are justifiably proud of what they have achieved, with the school moving from strength to strength” Ofsted March 2015. With a rapidly rising student roll, they play an integral part in the local community and are proud to have a professional, dedicated and supportive staff group that are committed to ensuring that the school succeeds in its ambitions to become outstanding. The school is currently seeking to appoint two highly motivated individuals to join their friendly educational support team as Educational Teaching Assistants.

 

THE ROLE: Your role as an Educational Teaching Assistant will be to work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff to implement and oversee agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of classroom. This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Educational Teaching Assistant to include:-

  • To undertake duties in accordance with school practices and procedures, ensuring the post-holder actively upholds and promotes the PRIDE ethos of the school.

  • To work under the guidance of the class teacher/line manager to plan and monitor students’ learning. Ensuring the progress is clearly recorded in the relevant systems and relates to the learning objectives/goals for students.

  • Provide support and guidance on a one to one basis or to teams of students in their core skills and curriculum needs as per school policies/practices.

  • To actively encourage the inclusion of all students to participate in the life and activities of the school and access the national curriculum to the best of their ability.

  • To provide individual assistance or assistance within groups through implementing behaviour plans, Individual Education Plans and teaching strategies etc, to maximise their achievements.

  • To contribute to plans, reviews and evaluations of students by writing reports on students’ progress and attendance at meetings.

 

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for the Educational Teaching Assistant position will be able to inspire and enthuse students by supporting them to achieve their goals within subject areas across the school. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with all students and staff.

 

Key skills/experience essential for the Educational Teaching Assistant role:

  • Experience of working with children / young people in a school environment

  • English / Maths at GCSE grade C or above or literacy / numeracy skills to an equivalent level to support students with their work

  • Understanding of the secondary National Curriculum and other basic learning programmes / strategies

  • Knowledge and understanding of different student learning styles

  • Ability to effectively use ICT to support learning

  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with all students and staff members

  • Ability to relate to children from diverse backgrounds

  • Able to commute to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

  • Happy to undertake an enhanced DBS check
