Are you looking for an opportunity to get real experience of work in the homeless sector? Are you a woman who has personal experience of homelessness, offending or of seeking support for substance misuse or mental health issues? We’re looking for reliable and motivated women to join our structured 12-month traineeship scheme.

Part of the Big Lottery funded Fulfilling Lives programme, Inspiring Change Manchester (ICM) is a partnership aimed at helping people living in Manchester who have multiple and complex needs achieve lasting growth and fulfilment. The Women’s Voices Group is a community of women with lived experience of multiple disadvantages who have come together to create change for women in Manchester. In this role you will work with the group to empower women to speak up, step out and have their voices heard.

This post is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund’s £112m initiative Fulfilling Lives: Supporting people with multiple needs.

*This post is restricted to women only as a GOQ under Schedule 9 paragraph 1, Equality Act 2010.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Gaining valuable experience working with a lead provider of homelessness and housing advice and support and being part of an exciting new programme
  • A placement within the ICM programme working to further awareness of issues and experiences of women with multiple needs
  • Developing skills in communication, facilitation, campaigning and research and empowering women with multiple needs
  • Undergoing a move-on phase focused on learning and the evaluation of your placement, with an ‘end goal’ of securing future employment.

And what you’ll need:

  • A passion to effect change for women in Manchester
  • Experience of multiple and complex needs, and the use of support services, e.g. homelessness, mental health, substance misuse or alcohol services and an understanding of how these experiences have affected you
  • An interest in and knowledge of multiple needs including rough sleeping and how these particularly affect women
  • The ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with people from a whole variety of backgrounds
  • Basic computer skills including using computers to create letters and forms, typing documents in Microsoft Word, using the internet and email system and recording information about people
  • The enthusiasm and determination to develop and learn new skills.
