Teaching Assistant, KS2 1-1 SEN Support, Wrexham School
Excell Supply is Wales’ leading Education Specialist based in Mold, Flintshire. We are currently recruiting for a mainstream primary school in Wrexham who are looking for a 1:1 teaching assistant to support a Year 6 pupil with ASD.
This 1-1 role is 27.5 hours per week, and is due to start in September 2016.
The school are looking for someone with good working knowledge of Autistic Spectrum Disorder and with the initiative to manage challenging situations independently. The successful candidate will have an empathetic and kind nature, with a responsible attitude and the ability to be patient and firm when necessary. Ideal candidates will have worked in a school setting and will have 1:1 support experience.
The ideal candidate will have a teaching assistant qualification, however applications will be considered from candidates that have strong experience of working with young people, either in the classroom or a similar support role.
Your role and responsibilities will include;
- Remain calm and patient, but have a firm and strong approach when required
- Recognise triggers and manage challenging situations effectively
- To establish a positive and supportive relationship with the pupil
- Use praise and encourage the pupil to stay on task
- Implement agreed policies and strategies to manage behaviour effectively
- Liaise with the class teacher, and other professionals about the pupil’s IEP (Individual Education Plan)
- The pupil needs nurturing, so you will need to have an engaging and kind personality, with understanding of children in care and the care system
- To aid the pupil in their learning as effectively as possible by giving positive encouragement to reinforce self-esteem and confidence in each task
- Provide regular feedback on the pupil’s learning and development to the teacher and other professionals
Successful candidates will be required to have the following;
- A relevant Childcare/Learning Support Qualification or extensive experience within the classroom
- Good working knowledge and experience of ASD
- SEN experience, including 1-1 support
- Good organisational and communication skills
- The ability to work to your own initiative and be reliable and flexible
- The ability to build professional relationships with both staff and pupils
