Chester Zoo’s developing site requires a comprehensive programme of maintenance works. An exciting opportunity is available for a Maintenance Technical Assistant (Mechanical & Electrical bias) to join our in-house Maintenance team. You will assist and support a team of highly skilled maintenance personnel and undertake your own planned and responsive maintenance works and new works.
The successful candidate will have completed a recognised course of training in a relevant maintenance discipline at City & Guilds foundation level or above. The fundamental purpose of the role is to support Trades personnel, as such extensive experience and formal qualification in the safe use of mobile elevated work platforms, erection of tower scaffolds and working in confined spaces is essential. Experience of mechanical and manual handling techniques is desirable. You must be familiar with safe systems of work requirements, a relevant health and safety qualification is desirable. Work aspects can include HVAC, plumbing, general electrical services, small plant and equipment, monorail system, effluent treatment plants and unique animal exhibits.
The role is focused on maintenance work, ensuring our animal, visitor and staff facilities are maintained to the highest standards. You will have experience in relevant maintenance work across the industrial and/or commercial and public sectors.
Working in a dynamic and often fast paced environment, across the entire zoo site, you will need a positive and flexible mind-set. Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships within the Maintenance department and inter-departmental teams is essential to delivery of a first class service to our internal clients and visitors. Being a genuine team player is essential along with good communication skills.
A full driving licence valid in the UK is also a requirement.
Hours of work are 40 hours per week, five days out of seven.
Salary is £21,866 per annum for a 40 hour week.
