Full Time, 40 hours per week

Our client provides a range of social care, special education, community support and consultancy services in the North West of England. The charity is one of the North West’s largest providers of residential homes for children from short-term emergency care to long-term placements. Their fostering service provides family placements in the North West and neighbouring regions.

They provide some of the leading specialist education services in the North West region, operating a range of special schools, a further education college and centres supporting those who cannot attend mainstream schools. In addition, they offer a wide range of training, consultancy and support services for parents and carers.

As an Independent Supporter, you will provide help and support to children, parents / carers and young people who are requesting an assessment, transferring from Statement of SEN/Learning Disability Assessment or who are undergoing the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process.

You will manage a caseload of families by providing timely and appropriate support that meet the needs of service and families / young people. This will require the ability to engage with families in home visits, telephone contacts, email and support in key planning meetings and reviews. Organising and facilitating workshops, you will provide information to parents / carers about the statutory duties for children and young people with special educational needs and ensure that professional relationships with Assessment Review Officers and other statutory services are established and developed to offer the best for every family or young person.

Educated to A Level / NVQ or equivalent, the successful candidate will be an active team member who has a thorough understanding of Children with Special Educational needs and their families needs. With effective communication skills and a flexible and creative approach, you will have experience of working with parents / carers and families from a variety of backgrounds and be capable of respecting, preserving and managing confidential information. Due to the nature of the role, it is also essential that you hold a current driving licence and have to a car for work purposes.

Candidates who have advocacy experience are highly desirable as are those who hold a qualification in Special Educational Needs.
