Formulating Chemist required. Our client is a leading global manufacturer of cleaning equipment and chemical products with a strong focus on innovation, invention and development.

To support our on-going commitment to the development of improved, cost effective and environmentally sound cleaning products we are looking to recruit an experienced development Chemist to join our research and manufacturing operation in the West Midlands.

This is a wide ranging role requiring knowledge, experience and a proven track record in new product development, performance testing, scale-up and manufacturing quality control, together with a basic level of understanding of the relevant chemical product related regulations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing and testing new and improved cleaning and sanitising products for commercial cleaning and health care applications
  • Ensuring laboratory methods of manufacture can be scaled up and reproduced in the process environment and that manufacturing specifications are prepared
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of product development to ensure products can be easily traced and monitored
  • Managing and documentation of stability, user trials, testing programmes, claim substantiation and all required external testing
  • Preparing technical data for product managers and marketing
  • Being familiar with and understanding industry regulations and general legal and customer requirements and to work closely with in-house and/or external product regulatory expert to enable compliance with REACH, Safety Data Sheets, CLP and product specific regulations such as detergents and biocide products.

Experience and qualifications

  • University degree (BSc, MSc or higher) or other higher education qualification in a chemical discipline
  • At least 3 years demonstrable experience in a chemical formulation environment
  • Experience with detergents and/or personal hygiene products desirable
  • Surfactant background
  • A basic knowledge and understanding of the requirements of applicable product related chemical regulations including REACH and CLP desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Well motivated with a capacity to work under pressure.
