What is the purpose of the role?

The purpose of an M&E Technician is to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, electrical & mechanical plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner with minimum supervision. You will maintain equipment to the required standards to ensure our statutory obligations are met, availability and associated performance maintained.

What makes this role unique?

Our Technicians and Engineers are a vital component in what we do at Thames Water. They are key figures on any site and help with the day to day operating of our Sewage Treatment Plants / Pumping Stations. Each day can present its own challenges and you will work towards achieving the highest equipment efficiencies through routine maintenance, breakdown repair and improvement work. Working as part of a diverse team based at Speen Water Treatment Works, you will gain experience on a wide range of process plant and equipment and work closely with the site Operations teams. Full training will be given for Health & Safety, technical and processes related to the plant.

What will this role involve?

This role will involve but not be limited to:

Carrying out planned and reactive electrical and/or mechanical installation work in a safe manner.

Diagnosing problems quickly to ensure a minimum amount of downtime by taking a proactive approach to improvements.

Communicating and reviewing planned preventative maintenance schedules.

Investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carry out repairs during incidents.

Providing technical advice where appropriate; making reference to up to date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.

Completing jobs to the required standard noting any findings on your company device and following the required reporting methods.

Working according to good housekeeping procedures and Health & Safety regulations by maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

What are we looking for?

Ideal applicants will have a combined Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) background following an Indentured Apprenticeship. Experience and working knowledge of large pumps, actuated valves, electronic control systems such as VSD's and 3 phase electrical switch gear is essential. We are looking for someone who has gained a BTEC HNC in a combined Mechanical and Electrical subject and who has passed 17th Edition wiring regulations. You will have a minimum of a C&G Electrical Engineering (Either Installation or Testing and Certification following an Indentured Apprenticeship or NVQ level 3 in Electrical Engineering, plus experience in a similar industry. Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry would be beneficial for this role, although not essential. The work will require physical fitness; so you will need the ability to work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota (typically 1 week in 6) will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment. Due to the nature of the role a valid driving licence is essential and as the post is site based no personal vehicle is supplied with this position.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based at Speen Water Treatment Works, Newbury. We are offering a salary of between GBP25,500 and GBP34,500, depending on skills and experience.
