The role (12 month FTC)
£34,000 FTE
This organisations North England Membership area requires a part time (14.5 hours per week) Membership Development Officer (MDO) based in the North East Region (Newcastle upon Tyne area primarily) to work with other members of the North England Team & active members, to deliver membership support and promote the benefits of the membership to non-members.
The post-holder will work in conjunction with the Membership Manager & other MDOs in the region to develop & deliver a coherent regional strategy for membership development, including co-ordinating the development & delivery of training & services to individuals & companies within the North East, specifically in the Newcastle upon Tyne area. It is expected that there will be occasional travel to other Regions to support other MDOs.
Duties & responsibilities
- Membership development - actively seeking, gaining buy-in for & implementing initiatives to develop their membership base.
- Membership growth - undertaking activities to promote & grow membership mainly within North East Region with a particular focus on Technician growth & apprentices.
- Membership Support - providing advice & guidance to members & non-members mainly in the Newcastle area.
- Employer Support - providing advice & guidance to employers on professional development
- Further Education establishments - developing links & projects to raise awareness of membership & professional development.
- Working closely with the Membership Manager, existing MDOs, & other regions to ensure a consistency of approach with assistance from the regional support team.
What are we looking for?
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, relevant experience in civil engineering, customer service, learning & development or a related subject is essential. A professionally qualified Civil Engineer (or a broad knowledge of Civil Engineering) would be desirable, though not essential.
- You will have previous exposure to liaising with a wide audience of people, along with the ability to engage & relate to senior members of the engineering & education professions. Ideally you should also be experienced at working with volunteer committees.
- Attention to detail & the ability to turn technical material into non-technical outputs are essential, as is the ability to target & engage a diverse range of audiences.
- The ability to work alone & as part of a multi-functional team, while managing & planning a number of simultaneous tasks effectively is key to this role.
- The successful candidate will have excellent written & verbal communication skills & the ability to prepare & deliver presentations. You will also be capable of public facing interactions.
