General Factory Production Supervisors and Operatives

Are you currently working in the food industry or have previous experience of frozen food production lines ?  Looking for better rewards and promotion prospects ?

We are looking for up to 5 general food process workers and two supervisors to join our existing small production team, more than half of whom have been with us more than ten years.

Applicants will need to be comfortable handling wet and frozen seafood products in air conditioned rooms, be fit enough for basic handling and lifting of 10kg boxes on and off pallets, have a flexible approach to working hours and ideally have experience of working within a fast-paced factory environment, however this is not essential as full training will be provided.

Duties will include operating factory machinery ( after training and authorisation) hand packing, cleaning production lines at the end of a shift, operating a “clean as you go” policy and complying with all current food hygiene and safety standards. Protective clothing and footwear will be provided including hair nets and beard snoods where appropriate.

Our normal factory hours are between 7am and 3.30pm but there will be a number of occasions where some overtime will be required to complete production orders, though usually this will be with advance notice. As a company we have always paid above the food industry average and our current entry level is £8.50 per hour with 20 days paid annual leave plus bank holidays each year.

Successful applicants are likely to live within half an hour of the factory and have own transport or good public transport links to avoid difficulties in early starts and late finishes, particularly in the months leading up to Christmas which can see increased levels of production.

We encourage all employees to take on additional responsibilities and with the right approach it is possible to achieve supervisor level within 3-5 years and earn significantly more.

Supervisor applicants with proven ability to manage small teams of operatives and with experience of controlling food production lines particularly automated weighing and form-fill-seal packing could expect to earn towards the top end of the income range offered..

The Company

Sefton Meadow Seafoods have been a specialist seafood processor since 1964 on their Maghull site. The origins of the business lay in the delivery of fresh chilled seafood to pubs, clubs and other hostelries at weekends during the sixties and seventies under the Kershaw brand but has since evolved into the leading UK contract packing company for frozen prawns to supermarkets and food service distributors.

We have been at the forefront of the drive to improve standards in the food industry and currently have the highest possible BRC grade as well as achieving required standards with regard to environmental, ethical, sustainability and labour issues.

In 2015 the company completed a state-of-the-art Raw Prawn Production Facility adjacent to its cold store, the largest project of its kind in Europe in 2015, more than doubling its weekly capacity to a potential 200 tons of raw and cooked seafood.

Our aim has always been to employ, reward, train and retain – our success is illustrated by how few employees choose to leave us – over two thirds of the workforce have reached 15 years service and a quarter have passed 25 years with the company.
