Full-time, fixed-term contracts, March to October 2016
Liverpool, Lancaster, Barrowford (Lancs), Bingley, Leeds

About the role

This is a great opportunity to spend from March to October helping to make the North West waterway network a place that local communities and visitors can enjoy. Working outside as part of a lock-keeping team, you will have a range of responsibilities in areas such as customer service, maintenance and water control. You’ll operate on an annualised hours system, which involves working any five days out of seven. We currently have 20 roles available in a variety of locations. Please confirm which location you would like to be based at when you apply.

About you

We’re looking for people who are passionate about customer service and enjoy working outdoors. Plus you’ll need to be a great communicator and team player. Some awareness of relevant heritage and environmental issues would be useful. A valid driving licence is also essential, as you’ll need to be able to drive vehicles as part of the role.

About us

One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,200 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations. Our mission is to have by 2020 a thriving, sustainable waterway network cherished by a public that shares a deep sense of responsibility for its wellbeing. Achieving this will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it.
