We’re looking for a Senior Resettlement Worker with good line management skills, knowledge of housing law, employment, finance and debt advice to join our Resettlement Team at HMP Hull.

Shelter has been delivering housing, finance, benefit and debt contracts in the community for 11 years. However, these contracts are undergoing significant change with the Transforming Rehabilitation Contracts being operated by newly appointed Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs). Each CRC has a Contract Package Area (CPA) it’s responsible for delivering rehabilitation services for offenders in, and within this there are a range of contracted providers who will be responsible for delivering these services. As part of this, Shelter has been contracted to deliver housing, employment coordination, finance and debt advice in the community in Humberside.

Each service will consist of a Resettlement Team delivering advice via the new Resettlement Planning process. This will involve close working with both the prison and CRC staff to create an effective and efficient resettlement planning process for each offender that comes into custody at a Resettlement prison. You’ll be an integral part of this service.

Benefits include 30 days annual leave, the possibility of flexible working and significant opportunities for learning and development.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Line manage, support and supervise Resettlement Workers where required, due to establishment size, complexity and capacity
  • Deliver a professional, outcome focussed Resettlement Service to offenders within all relevant resettlement prisons either on site or via outreach to additional HMP locations within the CPA
  • Undertake the quality review and monitoring for all reportees, including time recording, resettlement planning and interventions
  • Contribute to the HMP Induction programme, work with Peers to identify prisoner needs, deliver immediate interventions and update resettlement plans
  • Support employment retention, searches, application and CV writing as part of pre-release planning - signposting as appropriate to services in custody and the community.

And what you’ll need:

  • A good understanding of housing law and debt advice and the main issues affecting homelessness and offenders
  • Demonstrable knowledge of supporting individuals seeking employment
  • Proven line management experience, including supervision and appraisal
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, great relationships building skills, respect for others opinions and the ability to deal effectively with change
  • Good typing skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and case management systems, with a full driving licence, access to a vehicle and relevant insurance useful.
