The role demands an experience of working with schools and teaching methods and systems, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, conflicting priorities, and tight timescales.

Monday to Friday, working 37.5 Hours per week

Our client's external affairs team play a crucial role in the engagement of our customers and stakeholders, developing the business through exposure to key markets and via strategic campaigns to promote the organisation and engage with the local communities they serve.

They are seeking an Education Officer to support the delivery of their Greater Manchester contract communications strategy through the development and delivery of key initiatives.

This exciting role will deliver a range of adult and child education programmes and activities at our four education and visitor centres located across the contract area along with outreach delivery. As a supporting member of the communications team, the role will also lead and contribute to the planning, development and continuous improvement of communications delivery.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level and will have had some experience in public relations or communications; a knowledge of the waste and recycling industry is highly desirable, though not essential.

A full UK driving licence and access to own transport is essential to the role.

In return our client can offer a salary of £22,000 - £26,000, comprehensive travel allowances and an attractive benefits package, working for a Company that strives to be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Delivering informative programmes, activities and educational materials for students and adults across the region to meet the requirements of their communications service annual plan.
  • Coordinating the day-to-day management of our client's four education and visitor centres located at operational facilities within the Greater Manchester area.
  • Championing their services and raising awareness in the local community of their recycling initiatives, and of the waste and recycling industry as a whole.
  • Developing links between our client's business and the waste and environmental education sector, to ensure the information they supply is as current and compliant as possible.
  • Consulting with the communications team and their colleagues throughout the business on their service and partnership projects progress; compiling written reports, delivering verbal presentations and facilitating meetings as necessary.
  • Supporting the delivery of promotional and education activities including commissioning and production of educations resources, brochures, website, newsletters, public exhibitions, events, meetings, site visits, presentations etc.

Skills / Experience:

  • Excellent communicator, excellent Presentation Skills, credible and able to influence at all levels and the ability to manage and diffuse sensitive situations
  • Experience of working with public groups from diverse backgrounds including school students, the wider public and other stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm for environmental education and experience of delivering education programmes.
  • Experience of public relations and communications
  • The ability to manage projects, effectively and work to rigid timelines
  • Educated to a high level of education (preferably to degree level or similar), with relevant qualifications.
  • A current valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
