£25,000 - £27,000 FTE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Careers Advisor to join an expanding company on a part-time, freelance basis. They are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and dynamic Careers Professional to work on a self-employed basis at a school in West Yorkshire. They are a creative, media and education company whose mission is to add context to the curriculum and inspire young people about the world of work, offering reality-based insights into the local and national employer market via innovative online products and bespoke guidance services. You will be a self-employed contractor representing the company. You would be responsible for payment of tax and national insurance contributions.

The principal role is to deliver careers advice work at a school in Wakefield, with a focus on fundamentally raising aspirations in line with statutory requirements and Ofsted expectations as part of an 'outstanding' service. The main focus is to provide advice around progression opportunities and longer-term career planning for the whole cohort, but with a particular focus on providing 1-to-1 careers guidance and online careers advice for Key Stage 4 learners. The role is focused on ensuring that young people are excited about their future and all activities are geared towards helping them to make realistic choices about education, training and work. The advisor will have the remit to widen the aspirations of all young people in the school and to engage with parents and with teaching staff by delivering innovative and inspirational activities, careers guidance and group information sessions focused on local and national learning opportunities, decision-making, employability skills and gaining the resilience to overcome potential barriers to progress. The adviser will have the initiative and confidence to draw on local expertise and enhance the CEIAG programme.

You will preferably have a qualification in careers advice and guidance at Level 6 or higher, or NVQ 4 Advice and Guidance, or equivalent, as a minimum requirement. You will need experience of providing careers advice for young people in an educational setting as well as group advice experience and presentation skills. You will need excellent communication and listening skills, empathy, and the ability to build a rapport with young people, taking a non-judgmental and ethical approach. You will have the ability to motivate and inspire young people. You will be able to demonstrate initiative and be innovative in your approach to the guidance role.
