StepChange Debt Charity is seeking an experienced Payroll Controller to join the team based in Leeds. The successful applicants will receive a salary of £28,000 to £30,000 per annum plus benefits.

As the Payroll Controller you will support the Finance Manager and the Finance function. You will ensure the payroll is accurate, confidential, protected from fraud and processed on time with accurate accounting updates and all legal requirements complied with.

The Payroll Controller key responsibilities include:

- Ensuring all starters, leavers, salary amendments and absence details are processed accurately and adhere to relevant policies and procedures.

- Resolving payroll and pension related queries and formatting of pension reports for transmission to auto enrolment provider.

- Reviewing and balancing the monthly payroll and running the monthly BACS report.

- Processing and transmission of RTI and end of year reports to HMRC.

- Ensuring accurate expenditure and control balances in the SAGE accounting system.

- Maintaining all necessary legal records.

- Preparing data and liaising with Group Life Assurance Scheme provider regarding renewal, catch up and claims.

- Ensure compliance with all payroll related policies and procedures and adherence to FCC policies and procedures in general.

The ideal Payroll Controller will demonstrate:

- Experience in controlling a payroll for an organisation of 750 plus employees with up to date knowledge of HMRC regulations and accounting and book-keeping principles.

- Highly numerate and capable of meeting strict deadlines.

- Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be dealing with queries from colleagues, HMRC, pension providers and taking part in inter-departmental meetings.

- The ability to work independently and under pressure when needed.

- Ideal candidates will have an IPP Foundation degree in payroll management or equivalent experience.

Your working hours as our Payroll Controller will be Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
