Salary: £16,643 to £18,170 plus £1,755 London Weighting

Start date: ASAP

The College are currently looking for an Evening Caretaker who will be responsible for maintaining the security of the College buildings and general premises, along with servicing the operational needs of the site.

The postholder will be a registered keyholder and will be required to wear a two way radio and/or carry a College mobile phone to assist ease of contact in the event of assistance being required or there being an emergency situation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist with setting up a variety of rooms for a range of evening and weekend classes or events
  • To empty the bins from all of the Floristry rooms and other internal and external areas as required
  • To move a range of furniture, materials, deliveries and equipment around the Site as requested
  • To undertake routine repair, maintenance and redecoration tasks as requested
  • To undertake routine, periodic and cover cleaning duties as requested, this will include checking the main toilet blocks after the lunch period and replenishing soap, towels and paper as required
  • To assist with undertaking weekly internal and external safety inspections of the Site, including Health and Safety testing procedures
  • To assist various contractors that may be working outside of normal working hours and to contact the appropriate contractors in the event of an emergency situation whilst on duty
  • To physically monitor the use of the car park and external areas and to appropriately deal with areas of concern
  • To secure all allocated areas at the end of each day including closing windows and fire doors, checking that all lights and taps are turned off, setting alarms and securing external doors and gates
  • To undertake minibus and other vehicle driving duties as requested

The successful candidate will have flexibility to cover any absence of the College's other caretaking staff as reasonably requested and any additional hours as required in preparation for certain large or weekend events.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Employment experience in caretaking, general building or property maintenance
  • PSV or D1 on your current driving licence entitling you to drive up to 16 seat minibuses or willingness to undertake the relevant training
  • Valid First Aid and Fire Wardens Certificate (or willingness to train)
  • Employment experience in caretaking, general building or property maintenance
  • Ability to undertake general maintenance and repairs including painting and decorating, carpentry and basic plumbing
  • Ability to work on own initiative and have effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic level of computer literacy (including use of MS Office)
  • An understanding and compliance with current legislation, including Diversity and Equality and Safeguarding
  • Commitment to inclusive and comprehensive educational provision

The vacancy is 36 hours per week, 2.15pm to 10.15pm, Monday to Friday.
