Health & Safety Manager

The Role

The Health & Safety Manager will advise on all safety, health and welfare matters to ensure compliance with statutory obligations, ensuring all operations conform to the correct procedures covering three sites in the Glasgow region and supporting Leeds as required. The HSE / Facilities Manager will be required to:

• understand and apply all relevant Health and Safety at Work legislation
• maintain and adhere to OHSAS18001 safety management systems at all sites
• ensure all assessments required by legislation are conducted / reviewed
• take responsibility for PPE issued to employees
• complete lifting plans for safe handling of the large parts
• provide support on key projects for major customers
• conduct health and safety inspections and prepare appropriate reports
• carry out investigations into all incidents and record findings
• process all incidents reportable under R.I.D.D.O.R.
• identify training / certification requirements to meet legislative standards / HSE guidance
• review changes to plant layout / processes and ensure risk assessments undertaken
• liaise with suppliers / sub-contractors on HSE matters to optimise cost efficiency

Our client is a world leader in surface coatings, anti-corrosion solutions and finishings and provides specialist surface coatings to a variety of industry sectors including Automotive, Aerospace, Oil and Gas, Engineering, Construction, Medical etc. They have a comprehensive management system in place to meet all the requirements of ISO 9001 and TS 16949 accreditation for the automotive industry.

The Person

The successful Health & Safety Manager will have a relevant Quality, Engineering or QUENSH qualification and NEBOSH General Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent. You will be a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner (CMIOSH) or working towards this, with experience in Health and Safety at management level, and a knowledge / understanding of legislative requirements relating to occupational health and safety.

You will have experience with external auditors / professional bodies and preparation / delivery of training programmes, OHSAS18001 safety management systems, and working in a heavy industry. You will be a good communicator and IT literate with excellent project management skills.
