Post Title: HE Learning Support Note taker/Study buddy

Responsible to: Curriculum Support Team Leader

Purpose of the job: To contribute to the provision of an efficient, student-orientated learning

support service to all students in the College.

The Job, The child:

  • Provides in-class note taking or study buddy support to individual HE students in receipt of the DSA.
  • To be involved in provision of exam access arrangements and administration tasks within the HE Support Team as needed.
  • To develop 1:1 mentoring skills with a view to involvement in more specialist support.
  • Supports the review of the progress of individual students using review documentation.
  • Liaises and reports to relevant Curriculum Support Team Leader and Learning Support Manager on issues relating to individual students and their support needs which become apparent during the year in order to ensure students are supported appropriately.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records of work undertaken for the purpose of DSA funding allocation and contributes to meetings held regarding individual students.
  • Contributes to the production of electronic and paper-based resources and materials for use in the HE Support Team and Learning Skills Centre.

What is required:

  • Degree qualification preferred.
  • A willingness to undertake further training in the field of teaching and learning and specific learning difficulties.
  • IT skills in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to take notes in a lecture situation.
  • Experience of studying or working at HE level preferred.
  • Demonstrable evidence of continuous self development.
  • Experience of successfully delivering support and guidance to young people and vulnerable adults in particular and/or experience of having worked professionally with young people in an educational/care setting.
  • Evidence of knowledge of the impact of specific learning difficulties, mental health difficulties and physical disabilities on learning and an understanding of issues to do with diversity and social inclusion.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and up to date paperwork.

This is a large college in Cheshire catering for students who travel in from Manchester and surrounding areas and are keen to embark upon both academic and vocational courses.
