The College is currently looking for a Skills Development Team Leader who will be responsible for encouraging and facilitating the embedding of English and maths in the curriculum across all College centres and the teaching of Functional Skills, GCSEs and study skills.

This is a key role for the College as it is ambitious to provide the best possible Functional Skills and GCSE delivery and achieve the highest possible outcomes for learners.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to all aspects of the teaching cycle including the administration and assessment of courses and Individual Learning Plans at all centres
  • Overseeing the preparation of initial assessment of learners, schemes of work, Individual Learning Plans, class profiles, learning materials, session plans, assignments and associated student assessment plans
  • Preparation of reports and statistics relevant to Functional Skills and GCSE and contribute to all aspects of the College's quality assurance and improvement processes
  • Supporting curriculum planning and development across the designated curriculum
  • Ensuring that students are well supported throughout their learning programme and offering tutorials or advising tutors as required throughout the courses.
  • Liaising with Awarding Bodies and other relevant partners as appropriate
  • Contribute to events such as Enrolment Events and Career Fairs offering advice to tutors and learners
  • Managing the designated staff, including staff recruitment and mentoring, performance monitoring and appraisals in accordance with college policies and procedures
  • Management of delegated budgets in accordance with college policies and procedures

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, with excellent time management, organisation and administrative skills. You will have a professional approach, flexibility, responsiveness, enthusiasm and commitment to achieving high standards and deadlines.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills with proven experience of motivating self and others plus liaison and negotiation skills
  • A proven record of delivering teaching and learning to a consistently high standard and a demonstrable commitment to high quality provision
  • Experience of management in a pressurised and demanding role
  • An enthusiasm to work with vocational teams to drive the embedding of functional skills and devise strategies and resources to underpin success
  • An innovative approach to functional skills and GCSE delivery include the use of existing and emerging learning technologies
  • Experience and knowledge of the Functional Skills and GCSE Curriculum, GCSE awarding body specifications and criteria
  • An understanding and compliance with current legislation, including Diversity and Equality and Safeguarding
  • Commitment to inclusive and comprehensive educational provision
