Airborne Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Author to join the team based in Bridgend. You will be on a full time permanent contract with a highly competitive salary of £25,000 - £30,000.

Airborne Systems Europe is a market leading manufacturing business based on the outskirts of Bridgend. With 400 employees in the UK and France, we operate within the aerospace and defence market, manufacturing parachutes, aerial delivery and services and electronic warfare products.

Technical Author – The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the post holder will be required to produce Technical Documentation. They will be familiar and have experience in writing and formatting Technical Publications, Air Publications, Army Equipment Support Publications and be capable of adapting their authoring skills to a variety of engineering projects. A basic understanding of engineering design procedures would also be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities as our Technical Author

- Create Technical Publications in-line with Engineer  / Production / Customer requirements to be produced to the appropriate industry standards

- Produce, modify and update Air Publications (APs), Army Equipment Support Publication (AESPs), user instructions, Technical Manuals, data sheets,

- Estimating and raising costing for the production, amendment and maintenance of publications.

- Work as required with the Engineering Department design engineers / teams from conceptual design through critical design reviews/phases to final production.

- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all Technical Publications held by the company.

- Assisting and advising on engineering and operating matters relating to the investigation and resolving of faults.

- Answer queries from MoD and commercial customers relating to Company products.

- Provide specialist advice to MoD and commercial customers relating to Company product documentation.

- Support technical and commercial presentations to internal department representatives.

Qualifications needed as our Technical Author

- Must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office – in particular MS Word. (Office 2007)

- Should hold a relevant Technical Author qualification for example:

- City & Guilds – Level 4 NVQ - Technician Author

- Further Education Qualification (OND, HND, HNC…)

- OR have relevant proven and applicable practical experience

- Should be familiar with:

- Arbortext IsoDraw – CAD process (links to Inventor files)

- Defence and Aerospace Quality Standards inc. ISO 9001-2008 QA procedures and requirements

- Experience in a related defence or technology company

- Knowledge of scheduling processes

- Understanding of MoD and similar contractual requirements and procedures

- Driving Licence

- Knowledge of metals and fabric material construction

- Experience of aviation, safety equipment and/or parachuting related activities
