Job Description – Senior residential Support Worker
Qualifications and Training –
Must hold a NVQ3 Children and young people or Equivalent
Must participate in ongoing development and training as directed by the management
Hours of Work –
Full-time (average 40 hrs) or Relief staff (0 hour contract)
Salary and Conditions –
Point 29 - Point 37
Additional Points Maximum up to Point 46 – If specific responsibilities are agreed in writing
6 Month Probationary Period
Holiday 28 Days per annum, holiday year April - April
Reporting to –
The Registered Manager / Deputy Manager
Main Role –
To ensure the overall Aims, Objectives and Philosophy of Progressive Futures Care Ltd are achieved through:
1. The maintenance of good practice in the workplace
2. Work in conjunction with the Registered Manager
3. To promote the ethos of the organisation.
4. To work with the team to ensure the Home exceeds National Minimum Standards.
5. To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required to support service delivery
6. To be part of the On Call team as per rota. If required
7. To Adherence to all Company policies and procedural guidance.
Managing services to meet the needs of the young people
To ensure the positive development of young people.
To ensure the home environment is of the highest standard and is sensitive to the needs of young people.
Protect the young people from threats to health, welfare and development inside and outside the home.
To Identify and meet the express needs of the young people.
To use the residential community as a means of support and social learning for young people.
To attend Case Conferences, reviews etc. and provide written reports as requested.
Work in co-operation with the staff team to ensure that young people make maximum use of their leisure time.
To be involved in implementing, monitoring and recording family contact if appropriate
To ensuring key stages in the stay of young people such as admissions, discharge, are properly managed and recorded.
To ensuring that staff dealing with complex cases, are given appropriate support and advice.
To be responsible for recording, monitoring and development of all relevant documentation
To ensure all staff promote and participate in the education of young people and take a lead role in project work, activities and education work within the home.
To develop and maintain professional relationships with social workers, teaching staff and other professionals from associated agencies engaged in the young people’s care.
To ensure that young people cared for have as much responsibility for their own lives as possible and appropriate to their level of understanding, promoting independence.
To inform young people of their circumstances and rights.
To involve young people in planning and supporting their development by encouraging them to take appropriate control and responsibility for their own lives.
To provide on-going support as required.
Devise, monitor and put into practice Care/Placement plans in line with current legislation, individual need and outcomes expected.
Act as keyworker for a young person as agreed with the manager
Ensure that young people are involved with the running of the home, ensuring young people are treated as individuals and a positive family atmosphere is created
To ensure compliance with National Minimum Standards and all relevant Legislation.
Staff Support
To assist the Registered Manager in:
Providing leadership and guidance to assist in the development of staff.
To have responsibility in the deployment and management of staff under your supervision.
To be involved in the monitoring and appraisal of staff as necessary.
To ensure supervision of staff if you are requested to do so, is conducted as required by the National Minimum Standards.
To ensure all staff are aware of and participate in staff appraisal procedure.
To be concerned for staff welfare and monitoring of staff absence and levels of sickness, if required to do so.
Finances
To assist in the management and operation of budget and petty cash within guidelines.
To monitor expenditure and alert the Registered Manager in cases of overspending.
To ensure the staff understand and operate petty cash systems correctly.
To assist in the homes budgeting estimates.
To ensure adequate resources are at the home, such as stationary, paperwork, petty cash and educational materials.
House Management
To assist the Registered Manager to;
Create a homely setting to which young people can identify.
Maintain a safe environment that complies with Health and Safety and other legal requirements.
Ensure all records and communication systems are up to date
Provide written reports, update placement plans and reports for reviews as directed by the manager
Maintain the fabric of the building and grounds ensuring staff and young people take responsibility for the upkeep of the Home.
Create and develop links between the home, community and young people.
Ensure compliance of company policies, National Minimum Standards and associated legislation within childcare.
Personal Responsibilities
To assist Progressive Futures to provide the highest standard of childcare with a professional attitude.
To maintain an up to date professional knowledge, updating this through training and independent research.
To monitor and maintain all paperwork and recording, ensuring it is to a high standard, produced by
Yourself and staff whilst on duty as required by Progressive Futures and other statutory agencies.
To immediately inform the Registered Manager and/or Directors of any concerns of malpractice by
Progressive Futures employees or anyone else involved in the care of our young people
Other Duties
Complying with the Health & safety Legislation and keeping up to date on this
Attend Staff/Children’s meetings as required
Work on a rota system and provide cover for emergencies (e.g. Sickness, holidays) as required by the management team
Undertake any other duties, which may reasonably be expected by the management team.
