Our client is an educated professional in her thirties. She is one of the directors of a small engineering business in Cambridge, and also has a severe physical disability, uses a wheelchair and is unable to perform many everyday tasks on her own. Nevertheless, she has a sense of humour, a can-do approach and also leads an active social life.

To join her team as a Domestic Personal Assistant / Aide, we are seeking bright, well-presented and motivated people who will make her very full life practical. Each Personal Assistant stays with her for a portion of time for 24-hours a day to help her with all the things that her disability prevents her from doing for herself, then has time off while colleagues are on duty.

This is a job which is very varied: it involves helping our client as she is at work, there is an element of personal care, there are cooking and domestic tasks, and she'll rely upon you so that it is physically and practically possible for her to travel, socialise and take part in the various activities she enjoys in her spare time.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you if:
- you are a new graduate wanting time to plan your next career steps,
- you are here in the UK on a youth mobility (working holiday) visa, or
- you are taking a gap year before or after Uni.

You will be organised, practical and self-motivated, with attention to detail and the ability to plan. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be a fast learner. This role gives you the opportunity to learn important transferable skills and gives you flexibility to travel, work or volunteer elsewhere or take part in other activities in your time off.

You can do this Personal Assistant / Aide job while based or living anywhere within a few hours travel of Cambridge, as the journey to and from work is only once every two weeks. The working pattern of this job means that typically you will stay with our client for a period of four or five nights each fortnight and then you have about two-thirds of the fortnight off. During a shift you will stay with our client in her home, or wherever she is, to be available as and when she needs help. You will receive a regular salary of £8,680-£12,500 for working one-third of the time. Minimum commitment of four months, maximum one year.

Due to the personal care element of the role it is an “occupational requirement” for the purposes of Schedule 9 part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 that all applicants must be female.
