Installation Technician

adi Group has an exciting opportunity and is looking for an Installation Technician based out of Blackpool and working UK wide with some overnight stays and travel into Europe. The successful applicant will join us on a full-time, permanent basis and will receive a competitive salary.

adi Group is a large, privately owned, Birmingham based multi-disciplined engineering company offering total engineered solutions to food, beverage, aerospace, defence and automotive industries including several Blue Chip organisations. We currently employ over 450 people in regional offices and customer sites across the UK, with expansion plans to grow staffing levels to in excess of 900 staff over the next 5 years.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the successful Installation Technician will be expected to work in a small close knit team within the wider adi Group. The role will comprise of surveying sites and recommending topologies and solutions, installing and commissioning smart metering systems, providing support and maintenance to existing clients.

Working within a busy department, our Installation Technician will be expected to install, commission, maintain and repair smart meters in accordance with manufacturer and company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities of the Installation Technician:

- Attend customer breakdown call to carry out repairs as required

- Provide first line trouble shooting support (identification and resolution of the root cause of problems)

- Solving problems and also resolving issues as they arise on site.

- Carrying out validation exercises on new and existing metering installations.

- Carrying out any associated electrical installations and testing.

- Optimise the technical performance of smart meters to create customer satisfaction and retention.

- Carry out surveys and recording and typing up of findings / recommendations

- Selecting and designing suitable bespoke smart metering solutions.  This will include electrical, mechanical and communications systems.

- Installing and commissioning electricity meters and their associated current transformers, reference voltage supplies and meter management hardware.

- Installing and commissioning all associated communication protocols for our smart metering installations e.g. Modbus RS485, M-Bus, Pulse, etc. also to be familiar with such from associated devices (e.g. flow meters).

- Installing and commissioning Data Loggers and associated hardware, these will include but not be limited to GPRS, GSM, and RF types.

- Provide customers with product instruction and training, including advanced features.

- Contribute towards the on-going development by assisting / coaching / mentoring of fellow Engineers (dependant on grade).

Essential/Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience required by our Installation Technician:

- Qualified Electrician to BS7671 17th Edition.

- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems – gas, water, LTHW, CHW, etc.

- Experience of smart metering installations

- Knowledge of electricity meters and associated communications e.g. Modbus RS485, M-Bus, Pulse, etc.

- Experience of Data Loggers and RF equipment.

- Full UK Driving licence.

- Safe working practices and Health and Safety procedures

- Must be able to work on own initiative.

- Attention to detail is paramount both on site and closing out jobs i.e. document completion.

- Must be a good communicator and have an excellent manner towards clients.

The successful Installation Technician must be willing to must be willing to work nights and weekends as required.
