Your role as our IT Support Desk Technician
We have a great opportunity for an experienced IT professional to provide on-site IT Support to the Northampton office, servicing a growing office, starting with 250 users, with plans to grow to 500 users over the next 18 months. You will take on responsibility for PCs, laptops and other end point devices including hardware configuration, software builds and application deployment. We are looking for someone who thrives on helping others and enjoys doing a job well.
You will be tasked with troubleshooting and supporting networks (wired and wireless), hardware maintenance, desktop upgrades, purchasing and research. You will also carry out general administrative duties, and assist management with technical business decisions.
Successful candidates will have a strong background in Microsoft operating systems and related technologies, and be able to demonstrate broad IT knowledge combined with technical enthusiasm and confidence. Strong communication, time management and problem solving skills are key to this position. This role has the opportunity to grow into team leadership as the number of users increases.
Your responsibilities as our IT Support Desk Technician will include:
- Provide technical support and consultancy to all staff over telephone and email; act as primary contact for all hardware, software and other IT-related issues.
- Build, install and configure PCs and associated peripherals, including new equipment and the redeployment of existing hardware
- Act as a role model for the team
- Ensure work cover, manage rota and workloads, and discuss requirements with agents
- Identify development needs and opportunities for team members
- Set challenging yet achievable targets for engineers
- Be able to produce and maintain excellent results for the team for efficiency, productivity and quality
- Work collaboratively with other team leaders and managers
- Ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures
- Actively seek ways to overcome obstacles and seek new opportunities for yourself and team members
- Comply with the Financial Conduct Authority regulations at all times
- For the Future - lead, manage and motivate a team of systems support engineers
About You
You will need to be educated to degree standard in computing, networking or communications. Microsoft and/or Cisco certification is desirable. You will also need to have the following skills and experience:
- Experience of 1st/2nd line technical support in a commercial/professional environment (minimum 3 years)
- Active Directory and Group Policy Management
- Good Windows Server 2003/2008 knowledge
- Knowledge of Exchange 2007/2010/2013 (SQL an advantage)
- In-depth knowledge of Windows 7/XP Professional operation system installation, configuration and troubleshooting (or similar)
- Expert in Microsoft Office 2013/2007/2010 application suites for both setup and key application (Word/Excel/Outlook) best practice
- General router and firewall experience
