Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Location: Frilford; near Abingdon, Oxfordshire

Salary: £6,628 (Circa £20,000 pro rata)

Position: Part Time - 20 Hours per Week, 34 weeks per year, Permanent

Hours: 09:00 - 13:00 Monday to Friday

Our Client, a leading independent day and boarding School, is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work in their Preparatory School providing assistance with the duties of the Teachers.

The school is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to work within the school's Junior Section (Years 3 and 4) and Middle Section (Years 5 and 6), supporting the learning of individuals or small groups under the guidance of the Head of Learning Support and class teachers.

This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week Monday - Friday mornings during term time only.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Group or individual support in any lessons as required and with the support of the Head of Learning Support and relevant teacher.
  • Preparing resources as necessary for group or individual support.
  • Liaising with the Head of Learning Support and teachers and providing feedback on progress or perceived needs of individuals or small groups.
  • Under the guidance of the Head of Learning Support and teachers, assist in the assessment and monitoring of progress of individuals or small groups.
  • Occasional assistance with class display work or preparation of class resources.
  • Supervising pupils for short periods in the absence of a teacher (subject to the post holder's qualification and level of experience).
  • Supervising playtimes as requested as part of the staff duty rota and commensurate with a 0.5 FTE.
  • Attending whole school inset and department meetings where appropriate.
  • Taking part in staff training sessions when the subject is relevant and to be prepared to attend suitable external courses.

Experience and Background:

  • Previous work with children of a similar age is essential. Experience working as a Teaching Assistant and/or with pupils with specific learning difficulties is an advantage.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths at grade C or above
  • Full and relevant Level 3 qualification in either Early Years or Childcare would be advantageous
  • Current paediatric or work place first aid qualification (though a willingness to attend training funded by the school prior to appointment would suffice)
  • Previous Safeguarding training would be advantageous but not essential as training can be provided upon appointment
