Chapel Street Primary School is a buzzing, vibrant environment to work in! Our school was inspected by Ofsted in September 2012 and we received a grading of "Good" under the new, stricter framework. We are delighted with the many positive comments which are included.
Currently we have 675 pupils on roll. In 2014/15 we have a Nursery class and 21 classes from Reception through to Y6. We have had a recent school expansion and building programme. As there are at least 3 teachers teaching in each year group, they are able to work on many tasks within year group teams and to plan together. Our teachers are very well supported by a talented team of teaching assistants.
Around 50% of our children are of Pakistani heritage, 20% are White British and the rest belong to a range of ethnic groups. More than 30 languages are spoken at home, with many of our pupils being multi-lingual; a large proportion of children who start in our Nursery are unable to speak English, and many children in KS2 are still in the early stages of learning English. This rich cultural diversity offers us lots of exciting opportunities for children and staff to learn from each other. Levels of social and economic need are high for a significant number of children. Chapel Street is extremely inclusive and holds Manchester's Silver Inclusion Standard Award. In December 2009 we received the National Gold Healthy Schools Award and, in 2010, the Silver Eco-School Award.
IMPORTANT - we are a school that is totally committed to the very effective safeguarding of our pupils. This means that only candidates who are totally suitable to work with children will be considered.
ABOUT THE POST
Only candidates who can demonstrate outstanding teaching assistant skills will be considered for this post. The successful candidate will also be very flexible and adaptable in their approach to their work and ready at all times to do whatever is required to meet the specific needs of both the school and individual children. Excellent team-working skills are also absolutely essential, as is the ability to work independently and a strong commitment to wanting the very best for each child. The Candidate must be prepared to work as a 1-1 or a classroom teaching assistant.
Our school has a strong tradition in providing a range of professional development experiences for our staff, to meet both individual and school priorities and aspirations. As we are a large and growing school, there are many in-house opportunities for professional growth and development.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the learning process and how to inspire a very high quality response from children.
