English Teacher

Manchester

Main Pay Scale (Depending on experience)

"With every day, and from both sides of my intelligence, the moral and the intellectual, I thus drew steadily nearer to the truth, by whose partial discovery I have been doomed to such a dreadful shipwreck: that man is not truly one, but truly two."

Can you identify this quote, and inspire students to analyse and evaluate how form and structure contribute to the effectiveness and impact of the text?

With the new English syllabus coming in to force in September 2015, Supply Desk Manchester have been approached to recruit an English Teacher for an over achieving school in Greater Manchester, to start at the beginning of the next academic year.

Responsible to the Head of Department, the teacher is expected to be a professional and active member of the Academy working as part of a team at all times to raise standards, improve outcomes and promote a love of learning.

  • To encourage students to identify and interpret explicit and implicit information and ideas on a range of texts.

  • To enthuse pupils to communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, selecting and adapting tone and style for different forms, purposes and audiences.

  • To motivate learners to listen and respond appropriately to spoken language, including to questions and feedback to presentations.

  • Set high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge students.

  • Assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of all students.

  • Work with the Head of Department to implement strategies to address the underperformance of individual and groups of students.

  • Take part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the Academy.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • A degree and teaching qualification in English and should hold QTS.

  • Successful teaching experience or teaching practice including subject specialism to GCSE level at least.

  • Hold a current DBS or be prepared to complete a new one.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to exercise control in the classroom and encourage good behaviour at all times.

  • A positive approach to challenges with the ability to seek out solutions to problems and addresses these with good humour and cheerfulness.
