The Blagdon Farm Shop is an award winning farm shop 6 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne just off the A1 at Blagdon. Due to expansion into the new Food Hall at Fenwick, we are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Butcher.

We directly source a range of meats reared on our own farm and from other local suppliers and have a real passion for producing first class cuts of meat and wide range of high quality produce ‘from the field to the fork’.

As part of our award winning team you will have a passion for quality butchery, pride yourself on producing a fantastic variety of premium meats and added value products all delivered with outstanding customer service.

We have twice won Farm Shop Butcher of the Year nationally as well as 5 Great Taste Awards, North East Champion Sausage and numerous Smithfield Awards. We are a proud and active member of the Q Guild of Butchers, the best 110 butchers in the country.

We provide:

Full time permanent role (once a probation period is completed)

Good salary/wage depending on experience

Post involves 5 days per week including weekends by rota. Additional hours are required at Christmas/holiday cover.

The Role:                                                                                                  

Working directly with a small team of butchers you will:

Deliver outstanding customer service, the role is mainly customer facing and requires a good knowledge of cooking.

Be fully competent in all aspects of butchery including full carcase breakdown for retail sale, portion control, sausage and bacon manufacture as well as producing outstanding and innovative displays.

Practice traditional butchery but with a modern twist where consistency is key and create outstanding displays to make your counter the must visit destination.

Create new products in line with customer demand for todays retail environment.

Ensure all company HACCP Food Safety Systems, product traceability and H & S are adhered to.

Ensure excellent personal and department standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

Personal qualities and experience:

You must have a recognised butchery qualification or at least 3 years experience in a retail environment (counter and back shop).

You must have excellent technical knife skills and practical knowledge of full carcase butchery and all meat cuts leading to innovative meat displays.

You must have and demonstrate extraordinary customer service skills as much of the work will be customer facing.

You must demonstrate accurate portion control and understand costings and margins.

You must be a passionate and motivated individual who enjoys great tasting food.

You must have a good work ethic, high energy levels and a ‘can do’ attitude and be motivated to work on your own or as part of a team.

You will have an interest in cooking to share great food experiences with customers.

You will be flexible, very reliable and adaptable to the demands of the job.

Own transport and a full clean driving licence is vital as the role will involve working between Fenwick and The Blagdon Farm Shop.
