Our client is currently recruiting for a Chemist to assist with the technical and administrative control, operation and monitoring of the Anaerobic Digestion treatment plant, the Effluent treatment plant, ACF and MRF Outputs.

Monday - Friday, 45 Hours per week

Construction of the Glasgow Recycling and Renewable Energy Centre (GRREC) began in 2013 with the site expected to commence operation in early 2016. The facility is being built at Glasgow City Council’s long established waste treatment plant at Polmadie.

The £154m centre will handle 200,000 tonnes of council "green bin" residual waste every year. The plant, will divert 90% of green bin residual waste away from landfill and will save millions of pounds, release recyclable resources from household waste and produce valuable heat and power from what will be one of the most advanced waste management facilities in Europe.

This brand new role will require a practical and methodical thinker who has previous experience monitoring and carrying out laboratory analysis coupled with strong knowledge of laboratory standard test methodologies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in a Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Biological Sciences and be willing to work in all weather conditions and an unpleasant environment.

Duties include, but not limited to:

• Carrying out both routine and ad hoc sampling when required and to complete lab analysis and interpretation of the results.
• Prepare samples, paperwork and transport for external analysis. 
• Handling organic wastes, liquor, process water, process outputs and hazardous chemicals.
• Working with explosive environments e.g. methane gas.
• Manage external contractors to ensure analytical results are produced in a timely manner.
• Ensure that all site monitoring and test records are complete and current.
• Collect samples from AD, SBR, Water treatment Plant and ACF processes.

Skills / Experience:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Biological Sciences.
• Good standard of education including maths or a science.
• Ability to carry out independent research and present conclusions.
• PC literate (Microsoft Office etc.)
• Have an awareness of Health and safety
• A Full Driving Licence is essential to the role
