Youth Worker / Community Worker
Community Youth Project is a small charity working in Newbury. They work in partnership with local residents, especially young people. Their Community Youth Workers become active members of the local community. They work with all ages to bring improvements to the community.
Position: Youth and Community Worker
Location: South Newbury
Salary: GBP28,000 per annum
ROLE:
They are looking for an experienced, charismatic and imaginative Youth and Community Worker required to lead an established, successful and widely admired community youth project on the Nightingales Estate, Newbury.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Direct face-to-face work with young people to develop their social education by assessing needs and providing a programme of activities designed to meet those needs.
b) Recruit and develop a team of volunteers. Lead, motivate and direct, supervise and train them to deliver a programme of activities, services and facilities.
c) Build on the strengths and experience of residents to develop local community groups through informal and formal training opportunities.
d) Develop and promote the use of a wide range of existing local community facilities and services.
e) Identify, secure and develop community investment opportunities to fund community-based initiatives.
f) Encourage and facilitate the establishment of targeted schemes that enable residents to assist the delivery of local priorities.
g) Develop and implement a business plan for the area of responsibility.
h) Assume responsibility for finance including budget control, accounting and record keeping.
i) Undertaking outreach work, action and research involving parents and carers, schools, the statutory sector, local authorities, national and local organisations.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Experience of working with children or young people in a youth work setting.
b) Ability to develop and sustain relationships with a wide range of people of all ages.
c) Good organisational and administrative skills.
d) Appointee will be required to submit an enhanced DBS disclosure request which includes a barred list check.
e) Regular evening and occasional weekend work.
DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Qualification in Youth Work.
b) Experience of Community Development Work.
c) Previous experience in a supervisory role.
d) Experience of delivering group work, one-to-one sessions, leading meetings and delivering training.
e) Understanding of monitoring and evaluation systems.
