Randstad Education is very excited to be representing a fantastic independent primary school in the East Riding of Yorkshire, with their search for a Head teacher. This role is to start ASAP for the right candidate.

Your main purpose in this role will be to;
"provide professional leadership for the School, which ensures its continued success and improvement with all members of the school community, providing an environment for teaching and learning that empowers both staff and pupils to achieve their fullest potential"

Your mission in this role will be to;
"provide vision, inspiration, leadership and strategic direction to the school while working in partnership with the directors, staff and parents to sustain, nourish and develop the schools distinctive ethos. To enable everyone to work collaboratively, share knowledge and understanding, celebrate success and accept responsibility for outcomes"


The ideal candidate MUST;
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status
- Have experience in a primary setting
- Be an outstanding classroom practitioner, happy to be involved in the teaching at the school
- Have previous and relevant leadership experience, with strong people management and business acumen
- Have experience and understanding of independent education settings
- Be driven, determined and passionate about Education and driving the school forward, believing in providing quality in every aspect of the role.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Marketing and Recruitment

- Be responsible for managing the marketing of the school and for the recruitment and retention of pupils.

Strategic Direction & Future development of the School

- To formulate and implement an agreed development plan which makes learning central and secures continuous school improvement;
- To monitor and evaluate the performance of the school and respond and report to the school?s proprietors as required;
- To present a coherent and accurate account of the school?s performance to all school stakeholders including the school?s proprietors in order to enable improved standards of achievement;
- To ensure that management, finances, organisation and administration of the school supports its vision and aims;
- To ensure that school policies and practices take account of national, local and school requirements and to monitor and evaluate their impact and take appropriate action;
- To work with the school?s proprietors and the wider school community to translate the school vision into agreed objectives and operational plans which will promote and sustain continual school improvement and a sense of ownership;
- To visibly demonstrate the vision and values in everyday work and practice;
- To ensure clear communication at all times with all of the school?s stakeholders and thereby manages the relationship with parents effectively and retains the confidence of parents and pupils;
- To ensure all strategic planning takes account of the diversity, values and experience of the school and wider community;
- To work in partnership with the local community and in doing so to foster a positive two way supportive relationship.

Teaching & Learning

- To lead by example in delivering teaching excellence (the Head Teacher will be expected to teach around 10 hours each week);
- To maintain an environment that promotes and secures good teaching, effective learning, high standards of achievement and good behaviour;
- To determine, organise, implement and monitor the curriculum and its assessment and to ensure the statutory requirements are met where appropriate;
- To promote creativity, innovation and the use of appropriate new technologies and initiatives to achieve excellence;
- To ensure Schemes of Work are up to date and in line with the school?s overall aims;
- To ensure that pupils develop study skills in order to learn more effectively and with increasing independence;
- To demonstrate and implement a policy for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils;
- To monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning standards and achievement of all pupils in the school through appropriate methods i.e. benchmarking and data collation;
- To ensure the school maintains an effective partnership with parents and the wider community to support and improve pupils? achievement and personal development.

Pastoral Care

- To promote and develop the ethos of the school, through the School Rules and through the pastoral system;
- To maintain a high standard of pastoral care for every individual;
- To promote a healthy lifestyle for the pupils, with due regard to their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Leading & Managing Staff

- To lead by example as a model of professional conduct and presentation, demonstrating high personal standards of expertise and commitment;
- To plan, allocate, support and evaluate work undertaken by groups, teams and individuals ensuring clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities in a manner consistent with the conditions of employment;
- To ensure individual staff accountabilities are clearly defined, understood and agreed and are subject to rigorous review and evaluation in keeping with appraisal guidelines;
- To lead the continuing professional development (CPD) of all staff through example while also looking to develop the leadership capacity within the school;
- To ensure that a suitable person assumes responsibility for the discharge of the head teacher?s function at any time when absent from school;
- To maximise the contribution of all staff to improve the quality of education provided and standards achieved;
- To lead by example in continuing to develop good working relationships with the proprietors, staff, pupils, parents/carers and the community;
- Undertake annual appraisals for all of the teaching staff;
- To chair the weekly meeting of the Senior Leadership Team;
- To ensure effective working relationships with external agencies and services used by the school.

Deployment of Staff & Resources

- To work with the proprietors and senior colleagues to recruit, deploy and retain staff of the highest quality who achieve the vision, and goals of the school;
- To make arrangements for the security and effective supervision of the school buildings, their contents and grounds;
- To set appropriate priorities for expenditure, allocation of funds and effective administration and control;
- To manage, monitor and review the range, quality and use of all available resources in order to improve the quality of education, improve pupils? achievements, ensure efficiency and secure value for money.

Safeguarding

- To commit to applying rigour to safeguarding via procedural implementation and to promote the continued welfare of children and young people as required under the Education Act 2002 and an expectation of all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
