Job Title: Electrical Maintenance / Projects Technician

Location: Cornwall, PL14

Salary: £25,500 - rising to £33,340 (the salary quoted includes a shift allowance) dependant on skills and experience

Hours: 37 hours per week

Job Role:

Our Client is the leader in the field of Polymer Products. They undertake high volume production as well as the manufacture of bespoke items, many of which are designed in-house on behalf of their customers. Their work is carried out on major projects throughout the world and almost half of their production is sold overseas. They are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Electrical Technician to complement the existing Maintenance and Projects Team based in Cornwall.

You will attend to the day-to-day electrical requirements of the site in order to maintain a high level of machine availability to the production department.

Job Requirement:

The ideal candidate must have completed a recognised apprenticeship and have had several years' experience in an industrial production environment working in the following principle areas:

  • Fault finding on all types of process/machinery control systems, including conventional relay logic and PLC's.
  • Motor drive systems, AC and DC up to 390kw.
  • LV distributed cabling systems from main switchboards.
  • Electrical installation of machinery and services.
  • Electrical testing, instrumentation and calibration.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic control systems and their interface with electrical control systems.
  • A sound understanding of the requirements of electrical safety systems and their interface with control systems.

You must have a totally flexible working attitude, have confidence in your ability and be willing at times to work overtime (which may be routine for long periods and excessive for short periods) and/or unsociable hours. You must also have a thorough working knowledge of the IEE and Electricity at Work Regulations. Your ability to work alone and/or as an integrated part of a team is essential, as is your ability to work in conjunction with other trades.

General outline of duties:

  • Immediate front line fault finding on machinery. You would be expected to decide the quickest and most effective method of repair with due regard to the needs of production and safety.
  • Full electrical installation of all plant, machinery and services through to final testing and commissioning. This could include sizing and planning cable routes, carrying out all calculations required and basic design/building of control panels.
  • Electrical maintenance and testing as per the maintenance schedules.
  • Regular calibration of electrical instrumentation.
  • Ongoing updating and modification work on machinery control systems.
  • You could also be called upon to carry out any other duties required by the engineering department including assisting other trades.

Additional training where required over and above normal trade skills will be provided.

Hours:

During your initial familiarisation you may be required to work someday work and an alternating two shift system to improve your training. After this initial period you will be required to work an alternating two shift system as your normal working week the hours of which are detailed below:

Week One: 0600 - 1300 Monday to Thursday (total 37 hours per week)

0600 - 1500 Friday

Week Two: 1300 - 2215 Monday to Thursday (total 37 hours per week)
