Skills For Care have an exciting opportunity for a Project Officer to join our team based in Leeds.

What we do

Skills for Care is the employer-led workforce development body for adult social care in England which is a growing sector that currently has around 17,000 employers and a workforce of around 1.5 million workers contributing an estimated £43 billion to the English economy. In June 2014, we merged with the National Skills Academy for Social Care, to maximise the impact of our combined knowledge and expertise in the sector.

Together, we work with employers and other partners to create a fit for purpose qualifications framework and practical resources to develop the skills, knowledge and leadership of the workforce. Our work helps our sector recruit and retain the right people who have the rights skills at the right time to deliver high quality services to people who need care and support in our communities.

Skills for Care’s mission is to ensure that England's adult social care workforce has the appropriately skilled people in the right places working to deliver high quality social care.  Projects in support of this mission vary widely in scope and scale, ranging from high profile IT developments, to small, local community skills programmes.

The team

The Project Management Office team has been in place for three years and in that time has become an integral component in Skills for Care’s project management practice. The Project Management Office operates as a flexible, responsive and solution focused team and to that end, Project Officers' are expected to work flexibly across a range of projects as the business requirements and their capacity dictates.

The role

The Project Officer role is often the link between Project Managers (many of whom are home based) and the rest of the organisation and play a vital role in ensuring that projects are planned, communicated and delivered successfully. The post holder will support the successful delivery of a range of projects by providing professional project and administrative support to Project Managers and Programme Heads to ensure the deliverables within the business plan are achieved. This will include supporting the production and monitoring of project plans that are consistent and well communicated; having well defined goals and timescales and well managed risks and issues. The role also involves supporting project managers with financial forecasting as well as supporting meetings and events, which may involve some travel.

Requirements of the role

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of working in a similar role and provide examples to evidence effective organisational and communication skills.  Attention to detail as well as the ability to see the bigger picture is vital, as project officers are in the best place to highlight cross-cutting themes and make recommendations about efficient cross-organisational working.  The role also requires strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to build relationships quickly with the project team members they are supporting as well as a range of partners from across the social care sector.

Skills for Care is committed to promoting diversity, integrity, inclusion and innovation and expects all staff to share this commitment.
