Our client is a specialist support provider for people with mild to moderate learning disabilities and complex histories. The people for whom they provide support require skilled support to manage risks to themselves or to others in order to enable them to remain living safely in the community.

This is an exciting position in which you will help build a full and productive life for people who have experienced disadvantage by building positive relationships, being a motivating influence, and help to develop their skills. Most importantly you'll be supporting them to live safely in the community. They're looking for someone who is flexible, adaptable, interested and is motivated to help others.  

Sharing common interests with the people they support is something they value, therefore an enjoyment of Football, Snooker, Fishing, Gigs and Cinema for example would be looked upon favourably. Other interests are welcomed.
 
You will be responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people with whom you will be working and you will understand equal opportunities and its importance. You will be interested in learning about specialist support and enjoy being part of a core team around the person you'll be supporting, who are active and live varied and full lives.

You'll be keen to look for opportunities to increase the quality of life for the people you support and will enjoy helping people to reach their goals.
 
Other key info: 

Fulltime, part-time and relief contracts available. Car driver is desirable but not essential for the right person. Full and extensive training is given so prior experience in this field is not essential. They want the right people with the right attitudes and aptitudes, and they will provide training to develop the required skills.
 
Specialist Support Staff - Your role and duties will be:

• Using interpersonal skills and relationships to help people make choices, develop self-help, confidence and independence skills.
• Helping to seek inclusion opportunities and introduce the people they support to community facilities, clubs etc.
• Building good working relationships with the people they support, their friends and families, your colleagues and external organisations involved with the people you support. You are required to show empathy and awareness for others’ individuality, beliefs and cultures. You will recognise and challenge any bias, prejudice and discrimination.

They’re looking for someone who is:

• Able to work flexibly and to respond effectively and with maturity to changes in workload and the needs and aspirations of the people they support.
• Able to work as part of a team and also with independence.
• Able to build and sustain relationships with the people they support and their circles of support and enable them to expand those circles.
• Able to observe/ monitor and report signs of triggers for risk behaviours and respond appropriately and responsibly.
