This is an exciting time to be joining our Gas & Water business unit. We have a new Group CEO appointed. A new G&W Managing Director joined recently. Our business unit has embarked on a transformation programme that will enable us to deliver the requirements of our clients and regulators even more effectively.

The Gas Distribution Strategic Partnership (GDSP) contract is the largest within the G&W business unit. Mobilised in 2013, it is an eight-year contract for our key client. With 1600 colleagues working across many sites and depots, our two office hubs are in Wolverhampton and Worsley, so the ability to travel easily around the North West and West Midlands Region is essential to this role.

Part of a team of five, the reporting line is through the Engagement Manager, GDSP, into the HR Director, G&W. So, this role offers the opportunity to work at both business unit and contract level, taking high level strategic direction and then shaping and delivering it to the needs of the GDSP contract.

Specialist

You will be responsible for supporting delivery of engagement and communications activities including:

  • influencing the strategic direction of E&C activities within the GDSP
  • supporting the Engagement Manager to deliver the G&W E&C strategy into the GDSP
  • Developing, delivering and embedding internal communication campaigns across the GDSP, using both established and innovative methods of communication and engagement
  • supporting team members with effective workload management, planning and organisation
  • providing well-written content with a high standard of English, to be used in a range of communications - newsletters, "how to" guides, Intranet, announcements, brochures, case studies
  • support on event logistics and planning, including material creation, presentations, venue setup and liaising with external suppliers

You will have experience of:

  • coordinating communications activity across multiple channels.
  • employee engagement
  • communications planning
  • carrying out additional duties from time to time to meet the needs of the business
  • driving your own development

The ideal candidate will have great written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail. You will be really organised, able to meet tight deadlines, have strong IT skills and be prepared to develop these to excellent (excel trackers, process maps, Powerpoint etc). A real team player, you will be happy to pitch in and provide support for major projects that require a focus from the whole team - such as large events and campaigns.

As important as skills and experience are your qualities of enthusiasm, drive, teamwork, a positive 'can do' attitude, genuine interest in people and the ability to work through ambiguity as the business transforms. Your ability to manage multiple projects is matched by your relationship building at all levels of the business - and confidence with senior stakeholders. You will be robust, resilient and thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment - and be able to provide examples and references to demonstrate these qualities.
