Java Developer
Cambridge (occasional business travel)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team which provides the core platform foundation for the different Rakuten group companies around the world to integrate into the Rakuten Eco-system.

The Role

Joining the UK team as part of a global team covering US, Japan and India, you will be responsible for organisation builds, integration, operating and maintaining platforms at the core of Rakuten's global offerings. In this role, you will be working on global distributed development projects, involved in planning, designing, analysing, coding and unit testing. You will also be supporting the platform services used by Rakuten EU subsidiaries and also work on new feature developments.

Your other responsibilities will include:
• Delivering all solutions to the required standards.
• Understanding current systems capabilities and development areas and recommending the development of the system for future growth and ease of use.
• Delivering all development to the required standards including creating documentation, prototypes and demos.
• Ensuring delivery of applications to a professional level while meeting project deadlines.

This will be an exciting journey where you will be able to contribute towards process and product innovations on a day to day basis with a small team which has growth plans for the future.

Java Developer Requirements
• A good academic background (BSc/MSc or equivalent) in a Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• Experience of developing large scale RESTful web services.
• Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Strong knowledge of design patterns and OOP concepts.
• Advanced knowledge of one or more programming languages: Java, PHP, Python, C++.
• Knowledge of web development frameworks and multiple database systems.
• Strong agile development experience, ideally within CI/CD & DEVOPS driven organisations.
