Hays IT. have been engaged to source a Storage and Archive Analyst on a permanent basis for a large multinational retail business.
Role
To support, maintain and manage Data Storage and Archiving technology. To liaise contribute to the business' storage and Archive polices to ensure my client remain compliant to any regulatory or legislative requirements. To provide comprehensive reporting on capacity and performance of applications residing on the SAN and NAS and monitor archiving process and streamline where necessary.
Accountabilities
Follow ITIL processes and best practises.
Working closely with BIS and business colleagues to ensure storage high availability requirements implemented and upheld.
Ensure all software licenses are in place and advise on license utilisation.
Contribution to storage and archiving polices.
Contribution to BCP/DR processes and testing.
Contribution to design, sizing, selection, procurement, configuration and operation of all data storage infrastructure.
Upgrades to all storage and associated equipment.
Ensure all storage arrays and networks are monitored with relevant metrics and thresholds.
Effective liaison and escalation with 3rd party suppliers for issues and configuration requirements.
Responsible for scheduled testing of storage resilience.
Disposing of media and data in line with polices.
Housekeeping on all data storage facilities.
Implement disaster recovery requirements, to include relevant replication techniques in line with defined RPO/RTO.
Reporting on capacity, performance as part of Continual Service Improvement.
Assisting Incident and Problem Management teams in root cause determination of issues and input on creating preventative processes and prevent reoccurrence.
Formalising backup and archiving processes.
Maintains strong relationships with BIS and 3rd party suppliers.
Maintains a strong customer focus.
Knowledge transfer to colleagues for systems and processes with effective use of documentation, presentation and demonstration techniques.
Key Skills
Essential
Understanding backup, archiving processes and the technologies used.
Strong practical experience in UNIX environment
Practical experience in Windows environment
Experience of IBM XIV, N-Series
Experience of EMCVNX,
Experience of Cisco MDS Switches
Knowledge of RAID methods.
Good working knowledge of ITIL processes
Desirable
Exposure to VMWARE
Experience of array replication technologies (EMC Recoverpoint/XiV Replication)
Virtual Storage eg VPLEX
ITIL Foundation Certificate
