Web Developer

Web Developer required for a four year fixed term contract based in London. You will be working on an exciting project for an executive agency within the public health sector.

Skills & Knowledge

*Experience in developing web applications using for example MVC frameworks, JavaScript (jQuery), RESTful API's, HTML5 and AJAX.
*Programming/script writing skills (e.g. Python and Shell).
*Demonstrable competence in setting up and maintaining NoSQL and relational databases as a backend for web applications.
*Conversant in UNIX and knowledgeable about working in a UNIX/Linux environment.
*Competent in using version control software, Git in particular.
*Education to degree level or equivalent.
*Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications to senior stakeholders and a broad range of stakeholders as required.
*Experience in creating and giving presentations to a varied group of internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge (not essential)
*Higher degree in Bioinformatics or relevant discipline.
*Holds industry-recognised qualifications in web development.
*Knowledge of mathematical modelling.
*Knowledge/experience of Big Data using BigTable, Hbase or similar.

The Role

The post is funded for four years and will specifically deliver research aimed at improving UK preparedness and response to novel disease outbreaks. The focus of this role will be the implementation and improvement of translational research software with a focus on data linkage, visualisation and reporting.

*Drive the initial projects and key deliverables which will focus on the implementation, rollout and further development of the main tool for public health utility.
*To develop a user requirement for our client's main project based on widespread feedback from stakeholders.
*To review on current status of main project against the stakeholders requirements and to develop and implement a program of work to meet stakeholder requirements.
*To advise on and implement the most appropriate web technologies to meet the on-going needs of our client to present data to internal stakeholders.
*To contribute knowledge and expertise to scope and implement appropriate methods for data visualisation.
*Contribute to trouble shooting of hosted software programs.
