Are you a target driven, new business sales professional with an in depth knowledge of the Private Medical Insurance market? If so then our client, one of the largest healthcare specialist intermediaries within the UK are looking for you!

Covering the South of the UK you will support the growth & development of new insurance sales through self-employed sales channels displaying your talents for sales management within financial services.

This business development role is home based, as such you will be provided with a company car, laptop & mobile phone.

Purpose of the job:

This is a senior role within the Self Employed Sales Management Team with primary responsibility for delivering the company strategic sales plan. The Business Development Manager (BDM) will support the growth and development of the business through its Self Employed sales channel and performance manage and develop individuals within this channel to ensure that they achieve their true potential.

The BDM will work alongside the Business Quality Manager (BQM) both of whom report to the National Sales Manager (NSM) to deliver the long term strategic objectives of the business. The BDM will represent the values, culture and ambitious outlook of the organisation and demonstrate these in all aspects of the role.

What we expect you to do:

  • To deliver the new business sales plan.
  • To maximise conversion of all sales opportunities including appointments generated by the Sheffield Lead Generation Team.
  • To maximise AR Self-Generated lead through introducer arrangements, referrals and own canvassing.
  • Supporting the identification and development of affinity schemes.
  • To performance manage, coach and develop the Appointed Representatives.
  • To supervise and monitor the Appointed Representatives to ensure that adequate control is demonstrated and regulatory commitments fulfilled.
  • Support the Appointed Representatives with their day to day questions / queries to support new business sales.
  • Co-Organise and co-host Regional Briefings (alongside BQM) and other ad-hoc meetings as required.
  • Support in the production and delivery of the National Sales Conference.
  • To build strong relationships with key stakeholders within the company.
  • Support the Admin & Commissions, In-House Retention, Compliance & Accounts teams in respect of their interaction with the Appointed Representatives.
  • Develop relationships with key Insurer Partners across all market areas in which the company are engaged, i.e. PMI, Group Risk, Health Cash Plan, Dental, Travel etc.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the product, pricing and underwriting methodology of key providers maximising opportunities to help secure and retain clients.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding on the range of products and services offered by the company to be able to answer any queries from customers or Appointed Representatives.
  • Working closely with BQM to identify training and development needs of the Appointed Representatives and putting in place programmes to improve competence.

Experience:

  • Experience in, and in depth understanding of, the UK Private Medical Insurance market and Regulatory environment essential.
  • Sales Management experience essential, with a track record of delivering excellent performance.
  • An understanding of the wider financial services and protection market preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience of coaching and performance management essential.
  • Professional client focussed approach.
  • Exceptional effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical with good judgment.
  • Well organised, able to respond well under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Working well as part of a team as well as being able to work for periods using own initiative.
  • Experienced in using Microsoft Office Programs with strong IT skills.

  • Strategic sales plan delivered.
  • Sheffield lead conversion objectives achieved.
  • Appointed Representative's personal sales projections achieved.
  • Delivery of the Risk Monitoring programme.
  • ARs risk ratings managed effectively and issues identified and rectified.
  • Customers at the heart of all decisions and treated fairly at all times.
