SolidWorks Design Engineer - Swindon
Mechanical Design Engineer required to join a busy design team for a well established and industry leading manufacturer of punch press tooling solutions for the sheet metal fabricating industry. The successful candidate will take ownership in the design and development of customised solutions for customers from a wide variety of industry sectors using SolidWorks 3D CAD software. They will be required to utilise both standard and bespoke designs to meet individual customer demands.
Duties & Responsibilities
The creation of accurate designs for simple, intermediate & advanced form tools using 3D CAD system
Provide detailed, informative and accurate drawings to aid manufacturing
Create cost effective design solutions suitable for manufacturing
Ability to Interpret customer needs into reliable and consistently performing tooling solutions
Provide technical assistance to support internal & external sales teams
Provide technical support to manufacturing and testing personnel
Ensure that all design work is undertaken with the "Right First Time - Every Time" philosophy
Hours
Initial training carried out on a 08:30 to 16:30 day shift after which shift hours 06:00 to 14:00 & 14:00 to 22:00 will apply
Requirements Education
Engineering HNC or equivalent
Engineering Apprentice trained
Experience
A competent SolidWorks user with a minimum last 3 years experience creating models, assemblies & drawings
Proven knowledge of BS8888 or BS308 drafting standards
Practical experience in milling, turning, grinding, EDM and WEDM practices
Quick to identify key issues, spot opportunities and risk, resolve problems and make practical and balanced decisions.
A very high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
A creative and lateral thinker with the ability to challenge established practice and identify effective process improvements
Sheet metal punching and bending experience
Clear, concise communication and good interpersonal skills relating to both internal & external customers
Ability to engage effectively with staff at all levels with differing degrees of technical knowledge
