JOB DESCRIPTION - Community Support Worker
2 positions available -
1 x with a specialist interest in arts and crafts
1 x with a specialist interest in Gardening
Hours: 35 hours
Salary: £13,571 per annum
Temporary position until March 2016
Main purpose of the Job:
Within the guidelines laid down by Management, to support and encourage people who have a disability to participate in meaningful activities, new experiences and opportunities which will meet their individual needs in the most appropriate ways.
Key Areas of responsibility
- To actively engage with clients with support them with all physical tasks necessary for their comfort
- To assist clients in making full use of all available resources to develop new skills in accordance with their personal future plans
- To keep accurate daily records as required
- With support, liaise with parents and professionals to ensure clients’ needs are met
- With support, develop written development plans for clients, including in an accessible format
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to the smooth running and development of the organisation
- To participate in planned supervision/performance and monitoring sessions
- To attend appropriate in house and/or external training and development sessions / days
- To comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures
- To adopt a flexible approach to the hours worked in accordance to clients’ and organisational needs
- To carry out such other duties as the Chief Executive of Pure Innovations Ltd may from time to time require.
PERSON SPECIFICATION - Community Support Worker
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Experience of working with vulnerable people, the elderly, children, people with a disability – voluntary/ unpaid or in the home
- Ability to record accurate information and to communicate with a wide range of clients and their families/carers
- Commitment to further training and personal development
- Understand the needs of people with a disability and the issues they face in the community
- Willingness to support individuals and/or small groups in the community
- Support individuals with personal care and hygiene
- Flexibility in terms of working hours and location within the organisation
- Willing to do some evening and weekend work
- Respect colleagues and clients’ attitudes, beliefs and traditions
- Be prepared to raise any concerns with management regarding discrimination on the grounds of age, race, sexuality, religion or belief, gender or disabilities or other protected characteristics
- Be prepared to raise any concerns with management with regard to mistreatment / abuse
- Be punctual, have a good attendance record and meet the standard of attendance required
- A current driving licence and use of a car with business insurance to enable you to transport service users.
- Implement safe guarding best practice across all areas of the business and show commitment to safe guarding Young People and Vulnerable Adults.
- Comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act and take care of your own health and safety and that of colleagues, clients and the public.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Experience of working with individual’s who have a disability
- NVQ or equivalent in Care or willingness to study for and NVQ
- Experience of supporting individuals to carry out practical tasks
