DV Cleared Software Vulnerability Researcher - Permanent - Gloucestershire
An excellent opportunity to join a leading international cyber security organisation developing its capability and services in the UK to support key defence & government programmes. To be based in our client's new permanent 'Cyber Security Innovation Centre' in the West Country/Gloucestershire area.
Summary of Role:
Working within a leading edge environment, these roles will challenge the standard protocols of Software & Cyber Security engineering. The client use their current knowledge & research into offensive security to improve their tools & techniques in defensive security. You will be involved in challenging cyber software security problems, both defeating and developing new & advanced security techniques. Projects will be undertaken in small teams to quickly enhance capabilities or resolve issues in existing tools, whilst working with world leading Technical Experts.
Role & Responsibilities
Investigate vulnerabilities in software systems and software products.
Key areas of focus are:
- Reverse engineering
- Vulnerability assessments
- Wireless and network communications
- Hypervisors
- Discovering Zero Day vulnerabilities
- Mobile/Embedded development
- Win32/Linux Kernel development
- Constraint solving
Essential Requirements
- Extensive software development experience in C, C++
- Good understanding of OS internals.
- Proficient in Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
- Binary reverse engineering.
- Debugging experience with tools such as; Windbg, Ollydbg, Immunity or gdb.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to work closely with others in a small team and autonomously
- Able to work under pressure
- High degree of initiative and flexibility
- Willingness to travel if required
- Willingness to obtain and maintain a UK Government Security Clearance
Highly Desirable:
- Familiarity with assembly (x86 or ARM)
- Experience of other Scripting languages
Desirable:
- Ideally BSc in Computing (or equivalent) but more emphasis will be put on the direct relevant experience.
- In depth knowledge of virtualisation (VMWare or Hyper-V)
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in software development in a military or Government project environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.
- A broad knowledge of Information Security "best practice" and a good practical understanding of software vulnerabilities would be a distinct advantage.
- Experience in 'Capture the Flag' competitions, or taking an active part in cyber security events and conferences.
