Description: Controls Technician Applications are invited to a Controls Technician to ensure that all items of plant and equipment, within area(s) of responsibility, are maintained to the appropriate standard to ensure that their performance is safe, reliable and in accordance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), whilst at the same time, continually improving performance, equipment and systems to support the development of the Manufacturing Facility and contribute to the Supply function meeting its customer service, quality and cost target. You will embrace the RB culture and consistently demonstrate this through their application of the core values. Scope of Role: • Responsible for all Manufacturing Maintenance activities within their area of responsibility, generally a number of production lines and/or process areas within a value stream eg Lines 10 to 12 Ibuprofen. • Key points of contact for the Controls Technician are the Maintenance Team Leader, Maintenance Manager, Value Stream Managers, Manufacturing Technicians, Operators and Mechanical Technicians. • Has authority to requisition parts and services from the area maintenance revenue budget. Responsibilities: • Ensure appropriate resources, assets and time are available for the application of a systematic approach to Engineering Maintenance which uses performance indicators to routinely deliver targets and drive performance improvement. • All items of plant and equipment are maintained to the appropriate standards to ensure their performance is safe, reliable and in accordance with the principles of cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice). • Monitor plant operational efficiency, reliability and capability of all plant and equipment, identifying areas of under performance or opportunity and implement plans to deliver improvement. • Participate effectively in weekly maintenance review and planning meetings. • Ensure that a uniform approach to maintenance is implemented across shifts. • Monitor and control maintenance spend to meet annual budgets and ensure value for money is obtained. • Diagnose and rectify problems with manufacturing equipment and systems. • Understand the maintenance requirements in the area, and ensure that maintenance is delivered using a proactive, responsive, customer focussed approach with effective application of the maintenance system and good engineering practice. • Agree preventative maintenance plans, routine remedial action, machine design modifications, and operating & changeover procedures with Manufacturing Maintenance and Operations teams. • Use the CMMS Maximo system and resource to ensure that all agreed maintenance and improvement work is completed and ensure accurate and timely feedback of all tasks performed. • Ensure that procedures, as defined in the Manufacturing Maintenance Manual, are correctly implemented in area, and that the "Line Maintenance Manuals" are kept up to date. • Comply with maintenance systems and procedures, including those regarding Health and Safety, Environment and Quality Assurance. • Embrace the change management process to ensure that all equipment changes are risk assessed and correctly documented - especially relevant to software changes. • Update the system for all software back-ups making sure that the latest changes are correctly archived. • Will understand the requirements for the calibration of instrumentation systems and their effect on the process. • Provide the instrumentation and controls support of the Pharmaceutical operation with respect to manufacturing equipment. • Promote a safe workplace and lead by example following the site electrical safety rules. • Participate in the planning and execution of training for self, other team members and manufacturing staff. Key Challenges: • Embrace the RB culture and consistently demonstrate this through application of the core values. • Management of multiple concurrent priorities and issues. • Ensure a balance of time is spent on improvement as well as fire fighting or day to day tasks. • Never stop challenging the status quo where it is not acceptable. • Ability to operate and influence in a matrix management organisation. • Ensure maintenance works planned to minimise impact on production operations and have no impact on customer service. • Maintain effective communication to all parties. • Ensure time taken for new innovative / entrepreneurial approaches to maximise opportunities. • Develop constructive but challenging relationships within the team. • Ensure always up to date with new technologies and their potential application Qualifications: Experience: • Apprentice trained in an electrical / controls discipline, through a recognised accredited body. • BTECH 5 in Industrial Control Systems or equivalent. • Proven experience as an Electrical Technician in a pharmaceutical environment. • Experience in the maintenance and trouble shooting of electrical and electronic industrial control systems. • Must have experience in dealing with staff at all levels of expertise, with the ability to communicate skilfully with people at their level of understanding. • Preferably should have practical experience in operation and maintenance of large multi-purpose facilities ideally within the Pharmaceutical, Healthcare or Food industry. • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing process and cGMP requirements and their criticality to the product quality.
