Reporting to

Project Manager

Job Purpose

Provide Software Engineering expertise by contributing to all stages of the software development life cycle to produce a quality product on time, to budget and to client requirements. The Software Engineer will work within a small team or independently at our Head office in Dunfermline or on client site UK wide. We are looking for 2-3 years experience.

Key Tasks

  1. Contribute to the requirements specification for major projects
  2. Design software to meet requirements specification document
  3. Develop system test specifications to ensure the software meets the functional requirements
  4. Document development activities
  5. Conduct code reviews as required
  6. Comply with all company and client policies and procedures
  7. Comply with all Information security policies
  8. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the development process improving quality, reliability and development time

Key Skills

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience within any Engineering language (Java, C, C++, C# etc) of the full software project management life cycle ideally in an agile or waterfall development environment
  • Experience of web based application development and technologies would be an advantage eg HTLM5, CSS and Javascript
  • Experience in implementing software to meet current industry standards; knowledge of particular safety/quality standards would be desirable
  • Degree educated in an appropriate technical discipline, ideally Computer Science or similar.
  • Customer centric in approach to software development both internally and externally

Personal qualities

  • Adaptable - able to quickly learn new technologies and tools.
  • Good communication skills - including documentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or operate independently
  • Excellent problem solver and values operating to high quality standards
